Objectives

The "Roots and Wings: Discovering Europe through Folk Traditions and Active Participation" project aims to achieve several key objectives aligned with the principles of youth work, focusing on intercultural exchange, the preservation of cultural heritage, and the empowerment of young people. Through the implementation of this project, we seek to foster a deep understanding and appreciation of European folk traditions among youth, promote active citizenship, and develop essential skills that will benefit participants both personally and professionally. The first objective is to foster intercultural understanding and exchange among young people from Italy, Romania, Spain, and Bulgaria. Through workshops, performances, and discussions, participants will have the opportunity to explore, share, and celebrate their unique cultural traditions, overcoming stereotypes and building mutual respect. The project aims to create a sense of European identity that is inclusive and respectful of cultural diversity. Another central objective is the preservation and promotion of the rich folk traditions of the participating countries. Through activities such as music, dance, and craft workshops, young people will have the opportunity to actively engage with their cultural heritage, learning and practicing traditional arts that might otherwise be forgotten. This objective also includes the creation of a digital archive of European folk traditions, ensuring that these cultural expressions are documented and accessible to future generations. When choosing partners for the project, we wanted to bring together countries with a long and rich tradition in European folklore, such as Italy, Romania, Spain and Bulgaria, to create a direct and enriching comparison between their cultures. The objective is to explore and compare the different expressions of folklore, highlighting both the uniqueness and similarities that exist between these traditions, make them as attractive as possible for the new generations, introducing digital elements and non-formal learning methods.. This exchange will help not only preserve these ancient cultures, but also promote a deeper and shared understanding of Europe's cultural heritage among young participants. The project is also designed to empower young participants by actively involving them in the planning, execution, and dissemination of activities. Participants will not only learn about each other's cultures but will also take on leadership roles in organizing workshops, performances, and discussions, developing organizational, communication, and teamwork skills, and fostering a strong sense of responsibility and active participation. The project also aims to promote active citizenship and social inclusion by using cultural heritage as a means of connecting with others. The activities will highlight the importance of preserving cultural traditions while also addressing contemporary social issues such as inclusion, tolerance, and the fight against discrimination. The objective is to inspire participants to apply these values in their daily lives and in their communities. Finally, the project aims to develop key competences and lifelong skills that are essential for young people's personal growth and future employability. Through participation in the activities, young people will develop competences such as intercultural communication, critical thinking, creativity, and leadership. Additionally, the project will offer participants the opportunity to obtain a Youthpass certificate, which will formally recognize the skills acquired and add value to their educational and professional paths. In summary, through these objectives, the "Roots and Wings" project aims to create a lasting impact on participants, their communities, and the broader European context. The project will strengthen the sense of European identity, promote the preservation of cultural heritage, and equip young people with the tools they need to become active, aware, and responsible citizens. Through the exchange of traditions and the development of new skills, the project will foster a spirit of collaboration and unity across borders, contributing to a more inclusive and culturally aware Europe.
