The “Safebook” project aims to develop and disseminate innovative methodologies in youth work to address issues related to the safety of young people in the digital context. The increasing prevalence of social media and online technologies has led to new forms of risk, such as cyberbullying, digital abuse, and exposure to inappropriate content, all of which undermine the psychological and physical well-being of young people. By implementing this project, we intend to create practical tools and strategies that can be adopted by youth workers to prevent and address these issues, enhancing young people's ability to navigate the digital world safely and consciously. From the perspective of youth work, the primary objective is to provide youth workers, teachers, and mentors with a series of methodologies that can be integrated into their daily activities, both in formal and informal contexts. These methodologies will focus on digital education, the promotion of critical thinking, and digital literacy, with a particular emphasis on raising awareness of online dangers and managing personal privacy. We aim to encourage a proactive approach in which young people not only gain awareness of the risks but also become ambassadors of safe practices among their peers. The specific objectives of the project include strengthening the competencies of youth workers. Through seminars, workshops, and training modules, we will equip educators and youth workers with the knowledge and tools necessary to address issues related to online safety. This will enhance the quality of youth work by fostering a holistic approach that considers not only the physical well-being but also the digital safety of young people. Promoting digital citizenship is another key goal of the project. We want to encourage young people to use technology responsibly, consciously, and respectfully toward others, promoting values such as solidarity, respect for diversity, and the fight against all forms of discrimination and abuse. Additionally, the project aims to develop preventive tools. We will create educational resources, such as practical guides and digital toolkits, that can be used by schools, youth organizations, and families to prevent phenomena like cyberbullying, personal data abuse, and exposure to dangerous content. These tools will be accessible and easily replicable in various contexts, enabling widespread dissemination of best practices. Another key objective of the project is to actively engage young people in the learning process. Through interactive activities, creative workshops, and the use of innovative digital tools, participants will be encouraged to reflect on the risks of the online world and develop personal strategies to protect their safety and that of others. Expected results from the implementation of the “Safebook” methodologies include: Growth in digital skills: Young participants will gain a greater mastery of digital tools, alongside an awareness of the dangers associated with irresponsible use of technology. This will make them more secure and capable of navigating the online world with greater confidence. Better-equipped youth workers: Involved youth workers will enhance their ability to support young people in the challenges related to digital safety, enriching their educational approach with innovative methods adaptable to the needs of a digital generation. Replicable educational materials: The project will produce a range of educational materials, such as guides, videos, and interactive tools, which can be used even after the project's conclusion, ensuring a lasting impact over time. These materials will be available online, promoting knowledge sharing at local, national, and European levels. Increased awareness and engagement: Finally, we expect that young participants will become promoters of a culture of digital safety within their communities, sharing what they have learned with their peers and actively contributing to reducing digital risks for future generations.
