Youth workers play a crucial role in contributing to the achievement of the strategic objectives outlined by the European Union, such as sustainable growth, social cohesion, and the transition to a green economy, in line with the 2030 Agenda. Specifically, through their work with young people, youth workers can promote values such as inclusion, innovation, and active participation, with a lasting impact on society and the organizations they operate in. The project aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of youth workers' efforts by leveraging innovative approaches, such as gamification and contact with nature in educational activities. These approaches address two key needs: making non-formal education (NFE) more engaging and effective, and enhancing the potential of natural environments as educational contexts. PROJECT OBJECTIVES - Objective 1: Train youth workers in the use of gamified tools in natural settings. The project aims to equip youth workers with the skills necessary to integrate playful and gamification elements into their activities, fully exploiting the natural environment. The use of gamification, defined as the application of game mechanics in non-game contexts (Kapp, 2012), has been shown to increase motivation and participant engagement, promoting experiential learning (Fiona Fui-Hoon Nah et al., 2014). The project will enable youth workers to understand the key principles of gamification and experiment with its practical applications. - Objective 2: Develop skills for creating gamified educational tools. Youth workers will be trained not only in the use of existing games but also in the development of new educational tools that utilize game mechanics. This will allow them to customize activities to meet the specific needs of target groups, enhancing the effectiveness of their educational activities. The ability to create and adapt educational games will be a key competence acquired by the project participants. - Objective 3: Improve youth workers' ability to use raise awareness about main environmental issues through outdoor activities The natural environment offers an ideal setting for promoting environmental awareness and facilitating youth engagement. Youth workers will learn how to actively use the natural context to enhance NFE activities, improving participants' sense of connection with the environment and promoting critical reflection on global environmental challenges. The activities also aim to develop awareness of sustainable practices, in line with the EU’s priorities for climate and the environment. - Objective 4: Strengthen organizational capacity and the network of collaborations among participants. The project also aims to strengthen the organizational capacities of the involved organizations by fostering the sharing of best practices among partners. Through transnational cooperation activities, youth workers will acquire new skills in project coordination and management, improving the quality and effectiveness of future initiatives. Additionally, the project will provide a unique opportunity to expand the network of contacts among participating organizations, fostering new collaborations in the field of education and youth. In particular, for ASNU, this will be the first KA153 training. Significant improvements in internal organizational capacities are expected, both in terms of logistics and management, through the implementation of the project itself and the exchange of support and best practices with partner organizations.
