Objectives

The Youth Workers Against Poverty project is designed to equip youth workers, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively tackle poverty and social exclusion. Poverty is a widespread and persistent issue that affects millions of people, including a significant portion of the EU population. It is not merely a lack of material resources but a complex problem intertwined with social exclusion, inequality, and limited access to essential opportunities for a decent life. YAP aligns with the Erasmus+ Inclusion and Diversity Strategy and the EU Youth Strategy, acknowledging that poverty cannot be addressed solely through top-down approaches. Instead, the project advocates for bottom-up, community-led solutions that empower young people to become active agents of change within their local contexts. Youth workers play a pivotal role in driving positive change within their communities. The primary objective of the training course is to enable them to actively contribute to combating poverty in their work environments. The project aims to provide participants with the tools and resources necessary to identify local poverty-related challenges and develop innovative, sustainable solutions. The focus on youth workers stems from the understanding that their empathy, social awareness, and entrepreneurial spirit are key to addressing complex social issues like poverty. The YAP project represents an important initiative aligned with the priorities of youth workers mobility under Erasmus+, fostering both non-formal and informal learning opportunities. By improving the professional capabilities of youth workers, especially in community engagement and social advocacy, the project seeks to have a significant impact at local, national, and European levels. These improvements will enable youth workers to better engage with young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring their active role in shaping inclusive and sustainable environments in their local context. The specific objectives of the YAP project, in relation to youth work, are: -To equip youth workers with new competences in areas such as social entrepreneurship, community development, and project management, fostering critical thinking, active participation, and social engagement. Therefore, strengthening their role in promoting social inclusion, in fighting poverty, in supporting marginalised youth and encouraging their active participation in community life. -To promote youth entrepreneurship by empowering youth workers to design and implement social projects addressing the root causes of poverty, enabling them to lead initiatives that promote economic empowerment, social cohesion, inclusion, equality, and values such as empathy, equity, and social justice. -To strengthen digital skills among youth workers, allowing them to effectively use online platforms and social media to promote community initiatives and engage a wider audience in discussions about poverty and inclusion. -To foster international cooperation and networking opportunities among youth organisations across Europe.
