We want to carry out this project to address the critical need for supporting youth workers in promoting the well-being, resilience, and holistic development of young people in today's society. The idea of the project is to provide a comprehensive training program that integrates psychological tools, art therapy, and creativity to empower youth workers with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to effectively support and care for young people. In a society where youth face instability, information overload, adult unpredictability, media influence, and personal vulnerabilities, the role of youth workers is vital. They are called to provide stability, guidance, and mentorship, helping young people navigate complexities, critically analyze information, cope with adult instability, address vulnerabilities, and counteract negative media influences. Youth workers serve as consistent support systems, fostering resilience, empowerment, and well-being in a challenging and complex societal environment. Our recognition of the essential need for such Training is reinforced by our (and our partners) direct interactions with youth and the extensive body of research, including insightful essays on youth mental health and the authoritative UNICEF report of 2022. The UNICEF 2022 report, which highlights the rising prevalence of mental health disorders among youth, with approximately 10–20% affected worldwide, directly informs our objective to equip youth workers with the skills needed to support emotional well-being. The WHO's recommendations on early intervention have guided our emphasis on building resilience through creative approaches Additionally, in line with World Health Organization (WHO) reports on youth mental health, prevalent conditions such as anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders pose significant challenges for young individuals worldwide. These issues can have enduring impacts on well-being if left unaddressed. The WHO advocates for comprehensive mental health services, early intervention initiatives, and efforts to combat stigma to ensure that youth receive the necessary support and care for their mental health needs. This highlights the urgency of equipping youth workers with the skills and knowledge to effectively address mental health challenges among the youth population. The project seeks to empower youth workers with the tools and resources they need to support young people in navigating the challenges they face, building resilience, and promoting well-being in today's complex and diverse society. The training program will be adapted to meet the unique needs of youth workers from diverse backgrounds, including those working in marginalized communities, to ensure the broadest possible impact. By integrating art therapy and creative methodologies into youth work, the project introduces innovative strategies that empower youth workers to address mental health challenges in a way that resonates with young people, fostering the holistic development of young people and creating positive social impact within their communities. The objectives of the project include: Objective 1: Enhance youth workers' skills in providing emotional management support and resilience-building for young people, with a focus on inclusive and diverse approaches. Outcome: 80% of participants will report increased confidence in supporting youth emotional well-being post-training. Objective 2: Promote self-care and well-being practices among youth workers to prevent burnout and enhance their effectiveness, integrating digital tools for ongoing support. Outcome: Participants will engage in monthly digital peer-support sessions post-training, fostering sustained well-being practices. Objective 3: Foster resilience in young people through creative and art therapy approaches, empowering them to navigate emotional challenges. Outcome: Youth workers will implement at least one art therapy-based activity in their practice within six months of training. Objective 4: Strengthen collaboration, peer support, and networking among youth workers and NGOs to share best practices and resources across Europe. Outcome: Creation of an online resource hub and active participation in a European-wide network of youth workers. Objective 5: Promote inclusive and diverse youth work practices that celebrate cultural differences and identities, ensuring that the needs of marginalized communities are met. Outcome: Development and dissemination of a best practices guide for inclusive youth work. Objective 6: Empower youth workers as agents of positive change to create supportive and empowering environments for young people, contributing to societal well-being. Outcome: Increased involvement of youth workers in community-driven initiatives that address local youth needs.
