The main objective of the STAGE project was to revitalise young people’s participation in civic and democratic life, countering phenomena such as social isolation, powerlessness and frustration, which have become particularly pronounced in our lives since the pandemic. We wanted to foster a generation of informed and active young people, capable of positively influencing society through art and dialogue, leaving a lasting mark on local communities in Southern Italy. The specific objectives defined in the project included: Development of civic skills: Providing young people with tools for empowerment and spaces for dialogue on social issues and European values (such as inclusion, gender equality and environmental sustainability). Using theatre as an educational tool: Employing theatre and non-formal education (e.g. Theatre of the Oppressed) as a means of youth work to convey messages and facilitate democratic debate. Creating social spaces: Establishing new venues for meeting and participation in difficult or marginalised contexts, where young people can express their ideas and feel heard. Connecting with policy-makers: Building a bridge between young people and local institutions, promoting constructive dialogue and active participation that can influence decisions affecting the community. Building a network: Developing a national network of youth and theatre associations (in regions such as Sicily, Puglia and Campania) to exchange best practices and promote an active youth citizenship.
