Our project is a Youth Exchange created by 5 partner organisations: CET - Lithuania, Talantu Kalve - Latvia, Seiklejate Vennaskond - Estonia, The European Outsourcing Institute Foundation- Poland and Pollino digital lab - Italy. The motivation for organising this project comes from the realisation that in the past years, the palpable and virtual reality have emerged into a common one. Every single day, we open our eyes in the morning and start scrolling before we even leave our beds. We meet online, we go to school online, we date online, we navigate and discover new places online and ever since the pandemic, our screen exposure has at least doubled. Although the digital element has a lot of favourable effects, its rapid growth may feel overwhelming even for the elders, for our parents and sometimes, even for us. We realised together that we are so addicted to something we know so little about and the reason why we are so easily controlled by technology is because we don’t have the tools to control it and stay above it. So, we decided to design a Youth Exchange from scratch in order to help the young generation be more educated regarding the virtual aspect. The aim of our project is to support 30 young people in developing digital competencies necessary for becoming informed media consumers at the end of the 10-month project period. Our objectives are: 1. To enhance 30 participants’ understanding of the three primary roles of media: information, education and entertainment. 2. To help 30 participants gain at least 3 skills essential for virtual self-management: critical thinking, self-awareness and self-organisation. 3. To help 30 participants become more confident and motivated to use media and digital platforms for their personal and professional development, through activities related to self-expression, online communication and virtual networking.
