Objectives

Conscious Nutrition was a Youth Exchange designed to help young people build a healthier and more mindful relationship with food. It gave participants the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to make more conscious choices about what they ate, understand how nutrition shaped their mental and physical health and take meaningful steps towards a more balanced lifestyle. At the time of the project, unhealthy eating habits among young people had become a growing concern across all partner countries. In Lithuania, around 20% of young people were overweight and many lacked a clear understanding of healthy eating (Eurostat, 2023). In France, one in five young people experienced eating disorders, often influenced by social media and peer pressure (Eurostat, 2022). In Türkiye, approximately 27% of young people reported dissatisfaction with their body image, which frequently led to unhealthy eating patterns (Eurostat, 2023). In Serbia, 28% of young people were either overweight or at risk of obesity (Eurostat, 2023). In Greece, nearly 30% of young people engaged in disordered eating behaviours (Eurostat, 2022). These numbers pointed to a shared and urgent challenge: young people across Europe were struggling with food in ways that affected not only their physical health but their emotional well-being, self-image and daily quality of life and many did not know where to start when it came to making change. The project set out to meet young people where they were. Rather than offering rigid rules or overwhelming information, it aimed to create a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space where participants could explore the topic of nutrition for themselves at their own pace and on their own terms. The goal was not to tell young people what to eat, but to give them the tools, experience and self-awareness to make choices that genuinely worked for their lives. Through cooking workshops, nutrition sessions led by holistic health coach Dovydas Lukšas, mindfulness practices, a forest walk and personalised wellness planning, participants were guided to discover what conscious nutrition could look like for them individually. Food also became a shared language for intercultural exchange, as each national group brought their own culinary traditions to a collaborative Cultural Night, enriching the experience for everyone. Specific Objectives of the Project: – The project aimed to increase participants' awareness and knowledge of the relationship between nutrition and physical and mental health, helping them understand how daily food choices affected their energy, mood and overall well-being. – It provided hands-on cooking experience with plant-based, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, building practical skills that participants could continue applying in their daily lives after returning home. – The project addressed the emotional and psychological dimensions of eating (including body image, emotional eating and social pressure around food) in a sensitive, empowering and non-judgmental way. – It introduced mindfulness and stress management practices that complemented participants' understanding of holistic well-being, giving them tools for self-care beyond nutrition alone. – The project supported each participant in creating a personalised wellness plan, offering a concrete and realistic roadmap for continuing their journey independently after the exchange. – It fostered intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding by bringing together 42 young people from different countries and using food as a shared creative and cultural expression. – The project produced tangible shared outputs designed to extend the impact of the exchange to wider audiences beyond the participants themselves. – Finally, the project encouraged young people to actively promote conscious nutrition and healthier lifestyles within their local communities and to continue engaging with the Erasmus+ Programme.
