Objectives

Given the significant mental health challenges across Europe, the project “The ABC of Emotions” is designed to address critical gaps in mental health awareness and improve mental well-being among young people. This initiative responds to the urgent need to enhance young people's socio-emotional skills, diminish stigma and foster resilience among youth from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Spain. One of the primary objectives from the perspective of youth work practice is to empower participants to create supportive environments that promote mental health and resilience. This involves enhancing their ability to identify signs of mental health issues, reduce stigma through psychoeducation and awareness, increase mental health literacy and teach them effective coping mechanisms. Additionally, the project aims to equip youth workers with practical tools, such as effective stress management techniques, mindfulness practices, grounding and relaxation methods and cognitive restructuring strategies. These resources are intended to enhance their ability to help young people they work with manage daily stressors and improve their emotional well-being. Another objective is to provide youth workers with activity ideas that can be implemented in their organizational work to foster teamwork, group cohesiveness, empathy and conflict resolution skills. By integrating these approaches, youth workers will be better prepared to create supportive and resilient environments that address both individual and group needs, thereby improving the overall effectiveness of their youth programs and fostering a more positive and inclusive atmosphere. By implementing this project, several key outcomes are expected to be achieved. Firstly, it is anticipated that there will be a significant enhancement in mental health awareness and socio-emotional skills among the 35 young participants from the five involved countries. The aim is to empower these individuals with practical tools and strategies for managing their emotional well-being, which is expected to improve personal resilience and positively influence their interactions and relationships within their communities and daily lives. Secondly, the project is designed to reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues by fostering open dialogue and promoting understanding through various activities. By creating a supportive environment where mental health is openly discussed and accepted, it is hoped that perceptions will shift and more proactive approaches to mental health will be encouraged among the participants. Finally, there is an intention to create a sustainable impact by equipping youth workers with the skills and resources needed to continue promoting mental well-being beyond the project's duration. The knowledge and tools gained are expected to enable these youth workers to implement effective mental health strategies in their local contexts, thereby contributing to long-term improvements in mental health support and resilience among young people they work with. The general objectives of the project are as follows: - Provide 35 young people from 5 different countries with the knowledge to identify early signs of mental health issues in themselves and others through workshops, educational sessions and experiential learning. - Reduce stigma associated with mental health problems among 35 young people from 5 different countries through interactive activities that challenge stereotypes and promote acceptance. - Equip 35 young people from 5 different countries with the skills to manage their emotions, daily stressors and build resilience.
