The modern world is dealing with a series of interconnected crises that intensify one another, creating an increasingly complex and challenging global environment. These challenges include the rapid acceleration of climate change, significant biodiversity loss, and persistent wars and conflicts, all of which have exacerbated societal difficulties around the globe. Alongside these environmental and geopolitical crises, there has been a disturbing rise in mental health issues, especially among young people. These issues include widespread feelings of demotivation, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and eating disorders. The mental health crisis, often aggravated by the broader global challenges, has become a growing and significant concern. The combined impact of these crises has resulted in the first recorded decline in the global Human Development Index (HDI) in modern history, emphasizing the severe effects on human well-being and development. In this context, our project is motivated by the shared concerns of partner organizations regarding the increasing mental health challenges that have emerged in recent years. These organizations understand the critical need to address this mental health crisis, particularly as it heavily impacts young people, who represent the future foundation of society. Evidence from respected organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF highlights the severity of this crisis, showing that many young people are experiencing higher levels of anxiety and depression, coupled with a noticeable drop in motivation for activities they once enjoyed. This widespread decline in motivation is affecting not only their personal lives but also their ability to manage everyday tasks and responsibilities, indicating that many young people are struggling to maintain their mental health in the face of overwhelming daily challenges. Acknowledging the essential role that mental health plays in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this project aims to confront the urgent mental health crisis affecting young people. Our approach centers on providing crucial self-care tools to both youth workers and the young people they support. By promoting resilience, self-awareness, and a positive, constructive mindset, the project seeks to empower individuals to navigate the challenges they encounter more effectively. Working closely with our partners, the project will focus on equipping youth workers with innovative methods and resources to improve their capacity to support young individuals facing mental health challenges. This effort includes addressing the dual objectives of strengthening youth workers' competencies and offering critical support to youth experiencing emotional distress. By doing so, the project aims to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the mental health of the youth population and contribute to the overall resilience of our communities. The specific objectives of the project through which we will contribute to achieving these goals are as follows: 1. 36 youth workers from 9 partner organizations will increase their knowledge on trauma and resilience during a 7 days PDA which will take place in Čiūrai. 2. We will enhance the understanding of youth workers regarding the principles of non-formal education grounded in trauma awareness. 3. We will empower 36 youth workers from partner countries with personal and professional skills, including self-exploration and resilience. 4. We will develop a set of 7 art-inspired tools tailored to non-formal education based on trauma awareness. 5. Youth workers will enhance their competence in utilizing artistic elements such as clay modeling, poetry, music, and art-journaling in their work with young people. 6. Youth workers will increase their level of international cooperation in the field of youth work. 7. We will create 4 new project sketches. In conclusion, this project represents a comprehensive and multi-dimensional approach to addressing the mental health crisis impacting today’s youth. By empowering youth workers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to effectively support young people, and by fostering resilience and self-awareness among the youth themselves, the project aims to create lasting positive change.
