The "TO MOVE" project was born from our collective desire as young queer individuals in Latvia, Greece and other European countries, to create safer, braver spaces where queer youth and allies can explore movement, self-expression, and connection in meaningful ways. Many of us have faced barriers to participating in dance or movement spaces due to anxiety, exclusion, and societal expectations of gender, beauty, and perfectionism. These barriers often prevent queer people from fully experiencing the physical and emotional benefits of movement. As a response, this project aims to cultivate a sense of belonging and freedom in movement, where authenticity is valued over beauty. Our goal is for participants to develop a deeper relationship with their bodies, explore unique forms of expression, and gain confidence in both their movements and their identities. Objectives of the "TO MOVE" project: Body and Movement Connection: Foster deeper self-acceptance and freedom through movement, focusing on how it feels rather than how it looks, leading to a more authentic relationship with one’s body. Empowerment through Movement: By exploring diverse movement practices like contact improvisation and choreography, we aim to enhance participants’ self-confidence, self-expression, and social skills. This approach will promote individual empowerment, cultivate a sense of community, and support the development of meaningful, healthy connections. Street Activism and Visibility: Through street performances and actions, we aim to raise awareness about inclusion, body movement as a tool for personal and social growth, and the importance of authentic self-expression. These actions will foster engagement with the local community and inspire change at both the societal and individual levels. Building a Diverse Movement-Based Community: Plant the seeds for an intercultural movement-based community that embraces diversity and rejects societal norms that lead to discrimination. This project will also lead the way for future local actions, ensuring a lasting impact after the project ends. Promotion of Erasmus+ and Non-Formal Learning: Educate participants and the broader community about the opportunities available through the Erasmus+ program and non-formal learning. The Youthpass will be a central tool for recognizing participants’ personal growth and learning outcomes.
