“EcoPreneurs United: Building a Sustainable and Inclusive Europe” was another succesful Youth Exchange created to empower young people across Europe by combining sustainability, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion. We brought together 38 participants from the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Italy, and Poland with the goal of giving them the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to become real agents of change in their communities. The project focused first on developing entrepreneurial skills through a sustainability lens. Participants didn’t just learn about the ESG framework or business planning in theory, they worked in teams to design their own sustainable business models and presented them at the end of the exchange. We combined practical workshops with storytelling sessions from entrepreneurs and hands-on creative tasks, which made the topic both inspiring and concrete. A big part of the exchange was also about fostering social inclusion and intercultural learning. With more than half of the group coming from fewer opportunity backgrounds, we made sure the activities created a safe and supportive environment for everyone. Intercultural nights, team-building games, and group projects encouraged respect and understanding, while also highlighting the richness of our cultural diversity. Importantly, after being selected, all participants were asked for their input on how they wanted the program to look. Their suggestions shaped the timetable, and during the exchange everyone had the chance to lead a session. This created a strong sense of ownership and responsibility, making the project truly theirs. Environmental awareness was another cornerstone. Participants joined a recycling workshop, debated sustainability dilemmas, and even took part in a field visit to Plastic Whale Amsterdam, where they collected plastic waste from the canals and then they learned how it can be transformed into new products. These experiences made environmental stewardship tangible and personal. Beyond knowledge, the project helped participants grow in key competencies such as problem-solving, teamwork, public speaking, and digital skills. Non-formal learning methods like collaborative projects, reflective sessions, and peer-to-peer activities ensured that every young person had space to discover their strengths. Finally, we wanted the project’s impact to last. Each participant created a personal sustainability roadmap, and together we launched an alumni network to keep the spirit alive beyond the 10 days. Every national team will also organise follow-up workshops in their local communities in the next weeks, multiplying the results and reaching many more young people. Overall, the exchange showed how much can be achieved when young people are empowered to participate actively. They weren’t just attendees; they were co-creators of the journey — shaping activities, supporting each other, and applying what they learned in real-world contexts. The friendships, skills, and initiatives that grew out of “EcoPreneurs United” are proof that youth exchanges can spark change that goes far beyond the project itself.
