Objectives

Background and Objectives The project, "From Outdoor Adventures to Integration," was established to tackle the critical issues of social exclusion and limited community engagement faced by young migrants and refugees. These challenges not only hinder their integration into new societies but also have a significant negative impact on their physical and mental health. The core vision was to use outdoor activities and non-formal education as a powerful vehicle for personal growth and inclusion. The project was founded on the belief that purposeful engagement with nature could be a transformative tool, fostering well-being and a sense of belonging among this vulnerable group. The primary goal was to improve the integration and overall well-being of young migrants and refugees by equipping youth workers with the skills to use outdoor activities effectively. This was a strategic approach to build capacity within organizations and empower professionals who work directly with this target population. The project’s objectives were carefully designed to be comprehensive and impactful, aiming to create a ripple effect that would extend beyond the immediate participants. The specific objectives were as follows: Train Youth Workers: To educate and empower youth workers on how to effectively use outdoor activities as a methodology to address the specific needs of young migrants and refugees. The goal was to provide them with the pedagogical knowledge and practical skills required to create safe, engaging, and impactful learning environments. Develop a Practical Toolkit: To provide participants with a tangible set of non-formal education tools and resources that could be immediately applied in their work. This toolkit was to be a collaborative creation, ensuring its relevance and practicality. Promote Personal Development: To use outdoor activities to promote personal growth, resilience, and well-being. This objective aimed to help young people develop self-confidence, problem-solving skills, and a deeper connection to nature as a source of calm and strength. Foster Cross-Cultural Understanding: To create an environment where participants, from diverse cultural backgrounds, could develop a heightened sense of self-awareness and mutual understanding. This was an essential step towards building a more cohesive and inclusive society. Enhance Soft Skills: To integrate the development of critical soft skills, such as communication, teamwork, and leadership, within the framework of outdoor adventures, making these skills more accessible and meaningful for migrants and refugees. Champion Nature as a Resource: To advocate for and promote the use of nature as a central element for personal and group development within integration programs. This involved highlighting its therapeutic and community-building potential. Improve Professional Skills: To support youth workers in refining their facilitation styles and improving their project-writing skills, specifically for programs aimed at the social inclusion of migrants and refugees. Create Needs-Based Programs: To guide participants in designing learning programs that are directly responsive to the real-life experiences, challenges, and existing strengths of young migrants and refugees. Increase Organizational Capacity: To build the internal capacity of partner organizations, enabling them to implement local activities using the innovative outdoor methodologies. This was intended to ensure the project's legacy and long-term impact within each community.
