Still I Rise is a project about mental health and wellbeing, about inclusion and diversity, and about quality in youth work. Our focus was on vulnerability and resilience, as key competences to be developed in youth work, in order to have a positive impact in all of these dimensions. In our youth- and community work we observe how social anxiety is a real epidemic, we are aware of rising suicide rates among youth all over Europe, we face a youth that seems to be more and more aware about psychological wellbeing and mental health, but also more and more exposed to related challenges. Aware that several elements from our knowledge are key competences for mental health and wellbeing, we transmitted them to others, improving the quality of the youth work together with our partners and fostering inclusiveness towards youth facing these situations. From the NEED ASSESSMENT we undertook together with our partners, we noticed a need to: open the dialogue about topics that are still often experienced as stigmatizing be better equipped -as youth workers- with competences and tools to face the vulnerability of youth in an inclusive way master our own emotions and being positively in contact with our own vulnerability, to lead by example being able to identify and tackle the authentic needs of youth in vulnerable situations build a culture of empowerment, where vulnerability is welcome as an authentic human experience, and valued as necessary and constructive collect tools and work forms to work on cultivating resilience. The MISSION of our project was therefore to provide youth workers with competences and tools to create an inclusive culture around vulnerability, to cultivate a mindset where empowerment values vulnerability rather than fighting it, and to nurture resilience as a key transversal competence. When we thought of improving the quality of YOUTH WORK we thought at a practical level, and also in terms of values. Practically: we wanted to improve concrete skills, tools, techniques, and attitudes of youth workers, supporting them in setting competent interventions, to work effectively and with impact. In terms of values: we desired to contribute to a more inclusive society, where differences are valued and appreciated, and vulnerability becomes an opportunity for dialogue, learning, meeting the other, communicating clearly and authentically, and giving space and value to the stories and experiences of people. The concrete OBJECTIVES that we set to meet our mission were: To create a PDA in which 39 youth workers can come together and be trained in competences relevant for resilience and inclusion of vulnerability To guide our participants in the creation of implementation activities at their local level, having an impact on the youth they target (other youth workers and young people in their communities) To realize 16 events of local implementation, between integrations of elements of the PDA in the practice of the partner organizations, and workshops involving the target youth. To publish 20 posts (or other forms of dissemination) about the PDA and its implementation. To evaluate the project using questionnaires at the end of the PDA, and zoom calls with participants and with partners at the end of the implementation phase.
