Model European Parliament (MEP) is a national youth participation project, by young people for young people, in the Netherlands. MEP is a simulation of the European Parliament, in which young people aged 15-18 fulfill the role of members of European Parliament. Through the creation of a European Parliament simulation in a safe environment, MEP allows young people to develop the skills necessary to be considered socially active citizens, with knowledge of the European integration process and the European Union. Through the simulation, they enter into dialogue with policy makers/civil servants, engage with the political decision making process, learn to cooperate in an effective and respectful manner and develop the skills and mindset to be active citizens in a democracy.
