Objectives

“Let’s Go Out!” has been developed out of the need for reconnecting youth to nature, each other and themselves. We used digital detox and outdoor activities as main tools to create an environment that gives the chance to enhance the group's mental health and resilience. The first of the objectives of this project was to promote mental health and self-awareness, specifically to normalize self-care, patience and presence in everyday life. We achieved this through mindfulness exercises, group sharing activities and daily reflections and not least by the next objective; reconnection to nature. We conducted our activities mostly outdoors and used our natural surroundings to best fulfill all these goals. Living in a tent and being active in nature in all kinds of weather let participants develop adaptability and resilience and environmental responsibility. Beyond developing hard-skills like the use of tools and crafting objects, participants learned many soft-skills like teamwork, problem-solving. Leadership and responsibility. Everyone was involved in organizing and facilitating activities, strengthening the organisational capacity of the different partners. Another main tool we used to improve mental health and all coupled objectives was digital detox. We did not forbid phone use but rather gave the chance to put devices away according to everyone's personal needs. Moreover, we shared our knowledge on ways of reducing screen time and creating awareness about it. Followed by intercultural evenings and sharing cultures throughout the activities, this program gave participants a chance for a transformative and sustainable change of self, on the way to a healthier life closer to nature and European values.
