The main objective of the “From the Mountains to the Sea” (FTMTS) youth exchange was to foster environmental awareness and provide opportunities and greater purpose to those who fall under the category of “youth with fewer opportunities” in the ages 18-30. By implementing this project, we aimed at creating a space were European youth would get the chance to learn about nature, our ecosystems and sustainability, while at the same time foster personal growth and social skills. Through the use of non-formal learning and practical experience we aimed at helping youth to develop sustainable habits and gain a deeper understanding of environmental issues, while also giving them the chance to develop personal and social skills within a safe environment through intercultural interactions and hands-on activities. After all, it is todays youth and the younger generations who will be the ones facing the long-term consequences of our actions, and the best solutions transcends borders. The overarching goal of the project was therefore to create a deeper connection with nature and environmental stewardship while fostering self-growth and social skills among the participants, making them more equipped to enter the European society as engaged European citizens and as advocates for the environment and climate.
