Democracy and inclusive democratic participation

Objectives

International research reveal that although the overall knowledge about democracy is good, the democratic self confidence among young people is decreasing. At the same time, anti democratic movements are on the rise in Europe and elsewhere in the world, and voters’ confidence in democratic institutions is decreasing. The need for empowering the upcoming generations in democratic competence and give them tools to meet the rise of anti democratic movements are critical to maintain our European values and democratic institutions. In order to empower youth, it is essential to learn from each other, and to develop sustainable tools and structures to make an impact and a change. We need to strengthen youth’s ability to participate and use their voice and empower young people to become active citizens in their communities so they can contribute and make an impact. We want to provide youth with the space to learn more about democratic tools, especially different methods of participation and being part of a youth council. In addition, we want to provide them with the opportunity to meet youth from other countries in a workshop setting to strengthen the ties between them and learn from each other. This will boost their self confidence and democratic skills, while fostering intercultural dialogue and understanding while working towards a common goal. In short, our objectives are: Strengthening the competences of youth working with democratic participation and inclusion Strengthening cooperation between the partner organisations Strengthening the sense of democracy and democratic values among young people and youth workers Providing participants with a variety of tools to use in their daily life and work Creating a network that can arrange youth exchanges and help other municipalities nd NGOs in their region to strengthen their democratic work with youth Providing youth with tools to counteract hate speech and radicalisation within their communities Enable democratic participation in youth work and youth councils Exchange structures, tips and materials needed to establish or develop youth councils.
