The project “Harmony in a Bowl” was designed to use the universal theme of food as a gateway to discuss and understand its often-overlooked connection to mental health. Our aim was to help young people recognize that what they eat not only affects their bodies but also has a direct impact on their mood, focus, and overall emotional well-being. We wanted to: Raise awareness among young people about the scientific links between nutrition, mental clarity, and emotional balance, and how poor diets—especially those high in sugar and processed foods—can lead to stress, fatigue, addictive eating patterns, and reduced cognitive function. Promote intercultural understanding by exploring how different cultures approach food, nutrition, and mental well-being, and by encouraging participants to share and reflect on their own traditions. Create safe, inclusive spaces where young people could speak openly about mental health without stigma, learn from each other’s experiences, and exchange coping strategies. Encourage healthy eating habits through hands-on activities such as cooking classes, meal planning workshops, and joint meal preparation, making learning practical and engaging. Foster empathy and break stereotypes by facilitating intercultural dialogue and collaboration among participants from different backgrounds. Produce a lasting resource in the form of a cookbook that combined healthy recipes from different countries with reflections, cultural notes, and practical tips on nutrition and mental health. Promote Erasmus+ and Youthpass as tools for personal development, intercultural learning, and future mobility opportunities. In short, our objectives combined education, cultural exchange, and practical skills-building. We wanted participants to leave the project not only with better knowledge about the link between diet and mental health but also with the motivation, confidence, and tools to apply this knowledge in their own lives and share it with their communities.
