Objectives

The goal of the "Youth in Climate Action" project was to increase young people's engagement in climate action and prepare them to become active leaders and ambassadors for sustainable development in their local communities. We wanted participants to not only expand their knowledge of climate change but also acquire specific skills needed to plan and implement pro-environmental activities and initiatives that strengthen the resilience of local communities. Another important goal of the project was to develop participants' knowledge of climate science, environmental policy, sustainable development, and practical methods for countering the effects of the climate crisis and adapting to ongoing changes. We wanted young people to better understand contemporary environmental challenges and be able to translate this knowledge into concrete actions in their immediate surroundings. Another important goal was to strengthen participants' competencies, particularly in the areas of leadership, teamwork, communication, social advocacy, planning local initiatives, and collaborating with other individuals and institutions. The project also aimed to develop practical "green skills," which would enable participants to become more aware, independent, and proactive in taking action for the environment. The goal was also to support active youth participation in social and civic life. We wanted to create a space for young people to express their opinions, co-create solutions, and engage in activities related to planning local responses to climate challenges. The project addressed the need for a greater presence of youth voices in debates and actions regarding climate change and the resilience of local communities. Furthermore, we also aimed to foster international and intercultural cooperation between young people and partner organizations from Poland, Turkey, Cyprus, and Romania. By exchanging experiences, good practices, and perspectives, participants could learn from each other, develop openness, and build a network of contacts that would facilitate further joint initiatives after the mobility period. From a youth work perspective, the project also aimed to enhance the personal and social development of participants through non-formal education, experiential learning, collaboration within an international group, and activities based on active youth participation. In the long term, the project aimed to contribute to building more resilient, informed, and engaged communities and inspire young people to continue their climate-friendly activities after the mobility period ends.
