Objectives

The project “Art for Change” was initiated by young people inspired by previous activities of “Wyspa,” who wanted to create a space where art could become a tool for social change. Drawing on their experiences in educational and artistic programmes, the youth recognised the need to continue efforts to counter discrimination, stereotypes and social exclusion, this time in an international context. The project aimed to build a safe, open and inclusive community in which young people from different European countries could express themselves freely, learn from one another and discover the strength of diversity. Art for Change primarily sought to raise young people’s awareness of existing forms of discrimination and the lack of intercultural dialogue, while inspiring them to take active steps towards equality, tolerance and mutual respect. Art served as a language of understanding and collective action, a tool that enabled participants to tell their stories, express emotions and create works carrying a strong social message. The project demonstrated that every young person, regardless of their background or abilities, can influence their surroundings and contribute to positive change within their community. The project’s goals focused on developing key social and civic competences, strengthening empathy and critical thinking, and enhancing teamwork and intercultural communication skills. Through international artistic and educational workshops, participants gained creative skills and learned how to build bridges between cultures through shared expression. The project encouraged young people to find their own voice, to develop social awareness and to speak up courageously on important issues such as equality, empathy and solidarity. An important aspect of Art for Change was the promotion of mental health and well-being through elements of art therapy. Artistic creation became a way to express emotions, reduce stress and discover inner strength. At the same time, the project fostered participants’ digital competences, young people learned how to responsibly use social media to promote their art, share the project’s message and build a positive and trustworthy online presence. By bringing together youth from Poland, Spain, Serbia and Hungary, the project strengthened the idea of a shared Europe based on dialogue, trust and shared responsibility. It created a space where diversity was valued, and collective artistic action became a form of civic education and community building. Art for Change was designed to inspire participants to continue their engagement beyond the project, as young leaders and ambassadors of openness and solidarity, who use art and international cooperation to bring real, positive change to their local communities.
