The ‘Tr(AI)ner – AI in the Life of Youth Worker’ project was planned as a response to the growing need to develop digital skills among youth workers, with a particular focus on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) tools into everyday professional practice. In an era of dynamic technological change, when technology plays an increasingly important role in the lives of young people, it was essential for youth workers to be able to use modern tools to support their work, communication and youth engagement. The project responded to this need to develop skills related to the use of artificial intelligence in youth work. The goal of transforming traditional methods of working with young people through the integration of modern technologies was achieved. The project aimed to teach youth workers how to use artificial intelligence tools in their daily work – from project planning and digital content creation to developing critical thinking skills in young people through the effective use of available information sources – and this goal was also achieved. The project also achieved its goal of increasing the ability of youth workers to consciously use open AI resources and implement them in a variety of activities aimed at young people. Youth workers often face the challenge of how to engage young people in projects that are both attractive and developmental for them. AI technologies, such as digital content creation tools, chatbots and planning tools, can support these activities by offering a modern and interactive approach to project implementation. We believe that the goal of helping youth workers understand the potential, but also the challenges, of using AI tools has been achieved. The project aimed not only to equip participants with the technical skills to use the tools, but also to develop their critical thinking, information analysis and conscious approach to technology. Emphasising the responsible use of AI – taking into account issues such as copyright, disinformation and the ethical challenges of automation – was an important part of the project and has been achieved. Another objective of the project that was achieved was to build an inclusive educational environment that would enable youth workers to better reach all groups of young people, including those at risk of digital exclusion. The project's objectives focused on the key areas listed here. First and foremost, the aim was to develop skills in the use of AI tools – partners signalled the need to acquire practical knowledge about chatbots, AI algorithms and tools that automate everyday activities, as the lack of access to this knowledge limited the possibilities for innovative work with young people. Another important aspect was to improve digital project management skills, as many youth workers encountered difficulties in organising their time, tasks and resources. Therefore, the project provided training in the use of tools to support work planning and automation. The project supported creativity through AI in response to the growing importance of digital creativity among young people. It was assumed that youth workers should be able to support young people in content creation processes, so the course included the development of skills related to creating engaging videos, graphics and presentations. Equally important was strengthening information verification skills, given the problem of disinformation and the need for critical analysis of content generated by AI tools – participants were to learn about platforms supporting data verification and recognition of content of dubious quality. Finally, the project aimed to promote the use of open-source tools in youth work, which was particularly important in the context of the limited budgets of many organisations. Therefore, the programme included classes on the effective search and practical use of free, flexible technological solutions in educational and project activities.
