In the digital age we live in, European youth face significant challenges related to digital literacy and social media consumption. The "Heads Up, Screens Down" project emerges as a response to these challenges, recognizing the need to promote a critical and conscious approach to technology use. With the increasing number of social media users, as reported in the "Digital 2024: July Global Statshot Report," it is imperative that we address the consequences of digital dependency, which affects the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of young people. The main objective of this project is to develop digital literacy among youth, empowering them to use technology and social media in a more conscious and critical manner. To achieve this, we have established the following specific objectives: -Promote critical reflection on digital content consumption, helping young people understand the impact of the information they consume and develop a more conscious attitude towards what they see online. -Encourage the ability to face boredom and emotional discomfort, motivating them to explore creativity during moments of pause, instead of automatically turning to digital devices to escape boredom. -Increase youth connection to nature and their communities, promoting activities that encourage them to appreciate their surroundings, thus reducing the alienation caused by excessive time in digital environments. -Stimulate healthy habits for physical and mental well-being, through regular physical activity, reconnection with nature, and mindfulness techniques that help reduce stress and promote greater emotional balance. -Discuss and address "fear of missing out" (FOMO), helping young people reflect on the social pressure to stay constantly connected and the importance of being present in the moment. -Foster self-knowledge and authenticity, promoting activities that encourage young people to listen to their own voice and recognize their desires and feelings without the constant influence of social media. -Incorporate sustainable practices and environmental awareness, ensuring that all activities respect and promote sustainability. -Value non-formal education as a tool for developing digital literacy, promoting recognition of skills acquired through the "YouthPass" certificate. -Facilitate the sharing of good practices among youth organizations, promoting cooperation and the exchange of experiences that enrich collective learning. We believe that "Heads Up, Screens Down" will address urgent needs of European youth, such as reducing excessive technology use and promoting critical digital literacy. The project will equip young people with practical skills, helping them develop a balanced and healthy perspective on the challenges they face in the digital era, strengthening their role as conscious and active citizens.
