Objectives

As nearly every element of our lives has been dramatically impacted by the widespread use of digital technologies, including how we organize our lives, communicate, work, play and obtain knowledge and information, it has altered our actions and thoughts. Young adults and children are growing up in a society where digital devices are a commonplace. They are incapable of knowing any difference. However, this does not imply that individuals possess innate abilities to use digital technologies responsibly and effectively. This is where “Dig for Education” training course initiative appears, in the pursuit of describing the facets of digital competence for educators and helping them assess their competence, identify their training needs, offering targeted training. The project has its roots in DigComp Edu framework, the European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators. The objective of the DigCompEdu framework is to reflect on existing instruments for educators’ digital competence and to synthesize these into a coherent model that would allow educators at all levels of education to comprehensively assess and develop their pedagogical digital competence. Thus, the DigCompEdu framework distinguishes six different areas in which educators’ digital competence is expressed with a total of 22 competences. Educators are not just role models. They are first and foremost learning facilitators, or more plainly: teachers. As professionals dedicated to teaching, they need, in addition to the general digital competences for life and work, educator-specific digital competences to be able to effectively use digital technologies for teaching. The aim of “Dig for Education” is to capture and describe these educator-specific digital competences, as well as improve them. The project aims to address the growing need for educators to enhance their digital competence, particularly in the context of youth work practice. By implementing the "Dig for Education" training course initiative, our objectives are twofold: To empower youth workers with the necessary digital competences to effectively utilize digital technologies in their work with young people. This includes developing skills in organizational communication, collaboration with peers, critical reflection on pedagogical practices, and continuous professional development using digital sources and resources. To improve the quality and effectiveness of youth work practice by equipping youth workers with educator-specific digital competences. This involves enhancing their ability to engage young people in meaningful learning experiences, promote digital literacy and citizenship, and foster innovation in pedagogical approaches through the use of digital technologies. From the perspective of youth work practice, the objectives of our project are to enable youth workers to effectively harness the potential of digital technologies to support the holistic development of young people, enhance their engagement and participation in youth programs, and equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a digital society. Through targeted training and capacity-building activities, we seek to empower youth workers to be effective facilitators of digital learning and to create inclusive and empowering environments where young people can develop their digital competences and achieve their full potential.
