The core purpose of the "Go GREEN, stay CLEAN!" Youth Exchange was to equip 36 young people (aged 16-25) and their 6 group leaders from six countries (Czechia, France, Hungary, North Macedonia, Romania, and Slovakia) with the knowledge, skills, and motivation necessary to actively tackle environmental issues and promote sustainable practices within their communities. This project was conceived following a Partnership Building Activity (PBA) in December 2023, where partner organizations identified common needs, such as insufficient participant preparation and a lack of quality resources, which required a more intentional and well-structured youth exchange approach. The rationale was to address both pervasive global issues, like climate change, and specific national challenges, such as deforestation, industrial pollution, poor waste management, and air pollution prevalent in partner countries, linking local actions directly to the macro-level framework of the European Green Deal. The project specifically addressed the Programme's horizontal priority related to the green dimension by focusing entirely on environmental protection and sustainability. It also heavily integrated the dimension of inclusion and diversity, targeting young people facing fewer opportunities due to various barriers, including economic hardship (Hungary, Romania), having disabilities (Hungary), or being part of minority groups (France). The objective was not just knowledge transfer, but ensuring that 19 participants facing these challenges (including those with disabilities or social barriers) were fully supported and empowered to engage in lifelong learning and environmental advocacy. The participation of two facilitators, one specializing in peer support and counseling, was planned specifically to accommodate the diverse needs of the participants with fewer opportunities. The project objectives, defined from the perspective of youth work practice, were rigorously framed to ensure measurable impact: 1. Increase Knowledge on Sustainability: To increase the knowledge of 36 young people on how to properly recycle, reduce waste, and save energy through practical workshops and activities. This objective included using pre- and post-surveys to measure participants' awareness and personal carbon footprint at the start and one month after the mobility. 2. Empower Local Action: To empower participants to develop and implement local environmental action plans by guiding each national group to design a policy letter aimed at local policymakers, advocating for ecological improvements in their communities. 3. Promote Awareness Campaigns: To increase the understanding of the importance of awareness campaigns and the Trash Pong method: a concrete non-formal education tool developed within the project, to teach other youth the necessity of climate action. 4. Improve Advocacy Skills: To improve the ability of participants to advocate for environmental change by teaching them how to engage with local policymakers and present climate action ideas at the local level through methods of Town Hall Simulation. By achieving these objectives, the project aimed for participants to increase their self-esteem, empathy, tolerance, and confidence, acquire practical green skills, and gain confidence in leading local environmental initiatives, contributing to the broader goal of making them more confident in participating in similar international activities in the future. The entire learning process was planned to be documented through the use of Youthpass certificates, connecting practical experience directly to the key competences for lifelong learning.
