In the context of a rapidly changing world and the increasing risks of natural disasters and emergencies across Europe, it became clear that young people needed stronger preparation and practical competences to respond effectively in such situations. The Erasmus+ project “Resilient Empowered Active Disaster-Youth (READY)” was implemented to address these challenges, with a focus on empowering young people through disaster preparedness and strengthening community resilience. The project involved youth from different countries who often lacked sufficient knowledge and practical skills in emergency response, particularly those coming from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through hands-on training and international collaboration, the project worked to reduce this gap. The primary objective of the project was to equip young participants with essential competencies and resources for active youth participation, improving their preparedness for disaster response, volunteerism, social inclusion, and engagement. This remained aligned with the broader European objectives of enhancing youth empowerment and fostering intercultural cooperation. Specific goals of the project were to: -Foster awareness regarding the importance of disaster preparedness, volunteerism, inclusivity, and cooperation among youth, empowering them to become advocates in their local communities. -Enhance leadership and team-building skills, particularly among disadvantaged youth, through outdoor disaster response simulations and emergency preparedness training. -Facilitate the exchange of local and national knowledge on disaster preparedness, ensuring participants gained practical tools that could be implemented in their home countries. -Create a network of young leaders equipped to handle emergency situations, encouraging peer-to-peer learning and the spread of knowledge within their communities. -Promote active citizenship by enabling youth to take leadership roles in disaster relief and contribute positively to their communities. -Encourage intercultural exchange and collaboration, fostering understanding and tolerance among participants from diverse cultural backgrounds. -Develop sustainable practices for disaster relief that youth participants could carry into their future careers or community roles. -Empower youth workers and organizations by providing them with trained volunteers who were capable of supporting disaster response initiatives at local and national levels. -Encourage ongoing cooperation between partner organizations, fostering future Erasmus+ projects focused on community resilience and youth development. By the end of the project, participants felt more confident, prepared, and inspired to engage in local disaster relief efforts, equipped with skills that will last a lifetime. Additionally, the project left partner organizations better prepared to support youth and the broader community, ensuring a lasting impact well beyond the project's immediate activities.
