Objectives

With this project, we wanted to give young people practical skills to cut down on overconsumption, manage waste, and become more aware of eco-friendly ways of thinking. They brought what they learned back home, where they inspired others to live more sustainably. The main goal of »Life skills camp« was to help young people reconnect with nature, develop essential survival skills, and gain a deeper understanding of sustainable living. By exploring survival techniques, nature-based mental health practices, and eco-friendly lifestyles, participants built a lasting appreciation for the importance of living in harmony with nature. The project also encouraged them to reflect on how their daily habits and lifestyle choices impact the environment. Through hands-on learning, we supported personal growth and skill development. By living together, sharing daily tasks, and facing outdoor survival challenges, participants strengthened their teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving abilities. The project also touched on mental health and sustainability two themes closely connected to the goals of youth work; promoting well-being, social inclusion, and active citizenship. As other studies have shown, and as we observed ourselves, spending time and learning in nature boosts young people’s confidence, social skills, and mental health. With this project, we created a welcoming space where young people could explore their connection with nature and with themselves.
