Objectives

The project "Unionized Youth: Young Trade Unions", through which we conducted workshops in secondary schools and faculties using non-formal learning methods, aimed to empower young people entering the labor market and help them recognize work-related violations. The central objective of the project was to raise awareness among young people about their labor rights, the institutions that protect them in the event of violations, and trade unions—their importance, functioning, and role in protecting workers' rights. For secondary school and university students already training for a specific profession, a part of the workshop was also dedicated to presenting sectoral trade unions. Through this, we aimed to encourage young people to reflect on active participation in trade union organizations, as this enables them to protect or improve their rights in the labor market more effectively. Another key objective of the project was to establish a dialogue between young people and trade union representatives. We wanted to bring the challenges young people face when entering the labor market closer to the unions, and encourage them to develop content that would attract youth to actively engage in trade union activities. Indirectly and in the long term, the project contributes to the increased strength of both trade unions and young people in social dialogue, while promoting the active participation of youth in everyday life and in their career paths. The objectives of the project were: To provide young people with opportunities to engage and learn how to participate in civil society, and to generally promote participation and active citizenship; To promote youth work among the young trade union activists who implemented the project; To connect trade unionism, youth work, and the school system; and To develop youth policies based on recommendations prepared by the young project participants. We also pursued four of the eleven EU Youth Goals: Goal 4: Empowering young people to lead a constructive dialogue; Goal 7: Empowering them to advocate for quality employment; Goal 8: Mentoring them in preparing recommendations to improve the quality of learning within Active Citizenship content; and Goal 9: Opening up space and encouraging their participation. A specific objective was also the promotion and upgrading of digital competencies, which young people acquired through working in our trade union E-classroom. All of the stated objectives were achieved.
