The project aims to empower youth workers with the knowledge, tools, and skills necessary to combat disinformation in their communities. Through a combination of educational activities, discussions, and practical learning, the project focuses on fostering critical thinking, media literacy, and the ability to handle sensitive topics like misinformation with confidence and empathy. By enhancing the competencies of youth workers, the project will provide them with innovative approaches to inspire young people, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), to engage in active citizenship, build democratic values, and resist the influence of disinformation. Specific objectives: Develop media literacy and critical thinking skills: Equip youth workers with the ability to identify false information, question its sources, and promote a culture of skepticism and analysis among young people. This will involve teaching strategies to detect fake news, distinguish reliable sources, and understand the mechanisms behind the spread of disinformation. Create a safe space for dialogue: Foster an inclusive environment where youth workers can lead discussions about disinformation without creating polarization or hostility. By engaging individuals with varying viewpoints in respectful conversation, youth workers can model how to challenge misinformation constructively. Tackle cognitive biases: Recognize and address personal and societal biases that affect how individuals perceive information. Youth workers will learn to guide young people in exploring their own cognitive limitations, thus promoting openness and a willingness to reconsider previously held beliefs. Promote active Youth participation: Empower young people to take an active role in fighting disinformation through community-led initiatives. Youth workers will be equipped to lead local projects, facilitate workshops, and encourage critical discussions, which will help young people become informed and active citizens. Enhance conflict resolution and communication skills: Provide youth workers with tools to mediate conflicts arising from discussions about disinformation and to handle contentious situations with sensitivity. These skills will be particularly valuable in fostering productive, non-confrontational dialogue in youth settings. Build networking and collaboration opportunities: Promote the exchange of best practices, collaboration, and the development of future projects across borders. The project encourages youth workers to form lasting partnerships and networks that will continue to support disinformation resistance efforts beyond the project's lifecycle. Innovative non-formal education methods: Implement creative and interactive non-formal learning approaches to ensure the training is engaging and relevant. This includes experiential learning, peer-to-peer exchanges, and the use of creative mediums like role-playing, group debates, and digital tools. Expected outcomes: Increased awareness of the dangers of disinformation and its societal impact. A cadre of youth workers skilled in facilitating critical conversations about misinformation. An empowered youth population capable of independently assessing information sources and resisting manipulation. Development of practical resources (toolkit, activities and online materials for it) that youth workers can use in their local contexts to continue the fight against disinformation. Long-term partnerships and cooperation among youth organizations throughout Europe to collectively tackle disinformation issues. The specific objectives of our project are: - to identify the danger of false information and its impact on democracy, interpersonal relations, and individuals - to explore own beliefs and limitations when it comes to vulnerability to false information and recognize factors influencing individuals (social circle, education, access to sources, critical thinking abilities, etc.) - to increase media literacy and disinformation resistance in the CEE region among the wide variety of relevant target groups (through training course and dissemination activities) and to stimulate critical thinking - to engage youth in direct action against disinformation through dissemination activities - to create a safe space for discussions and questions regarding the disinformation, its purpose, and possible aims, and explore the harm they are bringing to societies in each country - to enhance competencies and to give youth leaders tools to address the topic in their peer groups with sensitivity and curiosity, without ostracizing those who tend to believe false sources, but rather to educate them - to equip youth workers with innovative and quality non-formal education methods
