Mass tourism has caused serious damage in Europe and Turkey in recent years. These include many negative situations such as housing problems, damage to cultural assets, increased pollution of nature, employment problems, carbon emissions of airplanes. It is also said that mass tourism has turned the most beautiful places in the world into a garbage dump (Guardian, 2024). Local people have also started to react to this and have organized protests in many destinations (Barcelona, Venice, Canary Islands, Greek Islands) and demanded that measures be taken against excessive tourism (Eurotopics, 2024). States aim to reduce the effects of excessive tourism with many measures such as reducing the number of cruise ships coming to the city, preventing guided tourist groups, preventing renting houses to foreigners, and city taxes (Bakır and Çelik, 2020). However, this is not a permanent solution. These measures will increase the attractiveness of those regions. They may ensure that more tourists try to go to these regions. Therefore, encouraging sustainable tourism elements as a permanent solution is seen as a more logical option. Thus, a portion of the demand can be directed to this area and more successful results can be produced. There are many studies showing that young people are more willing to engage in mass tourism due to the influence of social media (Zengin, Kingır, & Tezcan, 2018; Özay & Koroğlu, 202; Esenyel, 2024). Therefore, it is very important to direct the demand of this generation, which is in the early stages of its touristic activities, to rural tourism. In this project, the awareness level of young people on rural tourism will be increased. Another issue that young people have low awareness of is the harms of conventional agriculture (Som et al., 2018; Dutta & Shambu Prasad 2022; Atış, Günden, Salali & Ciftci, 2023). Conventional agriculture not only harms nature, but also harms human health due to the chemicals it contains. Therefore, the damages of conventional agriculture, which emerged after the famine that emerged after the Second World War, have gradually increased and have become the main cause of many diseases in recent years. For this reason, the concept of food security has emerged and has become one of the basic building blocks for sustainable societies in recent years (Moy et al., 2018; Garsow et al., 2022). In this direction, elements such as organic agriculture and hydroponic agriculture will be addressed within the scope of sustainable agriculture in the project content. Especially, a large number of young people living in cities do not have sufficient knowledge about sustainable agricultural practices, and this reduces the demand for food security. Therefore, the project aims to increase the interest of young people in sustainable agriculture. Finally, the common point of rural tourism and good agricultural practices is villages. Therefore, villages should also be considered within the scope of sustainability and their added value should be increased. In this direction, the classical village concept should be changed and sustainable villages (including rural tourism and sustainable agricultural practices) should be created and more sustainable practices should be replaced with conventional agricultural and animal husbandry practices. In this context, the Sustainable Villages in Bayburt province will be addressed and the interest of young people in sustainable villages will be increased. In light of this information, to summarize briefly; the main purpose of the project is to create a positive perception towards sustainable villages by raising awareness among young people about sustainability through rural tourism and good agricultural practices.
