This project was implemented as an international youth exchange project aiming to raise young people’s awareness about the climate crisis, particularly its impacts on children’s rights, as well as its overall consequences and methods of mitigation. The climate crisis was the starting point of our project. Since the Industrial Revolution, increasing greenhouse gas emissions have irreversibly affected nature, causing glaciers to melt, sea levels to rise, and wildfires and floods to intensify. Our project set out to bring young people face to face with this global challenge, both in its ecological and human dimensions, and throughout the process this aim was successfully achieved. At the beginning of the project, young people tended to perceive climate change mainly as an environmental issue. However, through the sessions, workshops, and field observations conducted during the project, participants reached the awareness that the climate crisis is also a human rights issue. They learned that fundamental rights such as the right to life, the right to health, the right to access clean water, and the right to housing are directly affected by the climate crisis, and this awareness was reinforced through concrete examples. Discussions based on recent floods, wildfires, and extreme heatwaves in Türkiye strengthened participants’ observations of the crisis in their own country. At the same time, participants from different countries shared their own experiences, fostering a spirit of global solidarity. In this way, young people came to understand that the climate crisis knows no borders and that solutions can only be achieved through international cooperation. The project process provided young people not only with theoretical knowledge but also with practical skills. Participants became aware of their individual responsibilities, designed small-scale but effective environmental actions, and grasped the importance of human rights-based policies in addressing the climate crisis. As a result of these activities, it was observed that young people’s individual motivation increased and that they also took concrete steps to contribute to raising social awareness. In conclusion, the project enabled young people not only to learn about the causes and effects of the climate crisis but also to become individuals who can take an active role in combating this crisis. Our project created an opportunity for young people from different cultural backgrounds to come together around a common purpose, allowing them to experience transformation both in knowledge and values, thereby contributing to the development of a more conscious, empathetic, and cooperative young generation. The project not only provided young people with knowledge, skills, and values but also contributed to the emergence of a more resilient, empathetic, and globally aware society. Within the framework of our specific objectives: 1. Awareness was raised among young people about the causes and consequences of the climate crisis driven by global warming. 2. Young people’s knowledge was increased regarding the cause-effect relationship between the climate crisis and human rights, the concept of human rights itself, and which rights are most affected by the crisis. 3. Young people’s motivation to take individual responsibility in combating the climate crisis was strengthened. 4. Human rights-based climate action policies to prevent global warming were encouraged and promoted, proportionally to our means. 5. Awareness was raised at the local level about the impact of climate change on human rights.
