Objectives

The ATM – Art, Theatre, Music for Mental Health project was developed in response to the growing mental health challenges faced by young people across Europe and Türkiye. We wanted to create a safe, inclusive, and creative environment where young people could openly discuss mental health, express their emotions, and develop practical coping strategies through non-formal education. The project aimed to provide participants with opportunities to explore mental well-being through artistic expression, including theatre, creative writing, photography, mindfulness activities, storytelling, and visual arts. By engaging in these activities, participants were encouraged to express complex emotions, reduce stigma surrounding mental health, and strengthen their self-confidence and resilience. Another important objective was to equip young people with practical tools for dealing with stress, anxiety, loneliness, and other emotional challenges. Through workshops focused on mindfulness, communication, gratitude, emotional awareness, and resilience-building, participants developed skills that can support their well-being beyond the project period. The project also sought to bridge the gap between mental health awareness and action. Rather than discussing mental health only theoretically, participants experienced how creative methods such as art, theatre, music, and storytelling can be integrated into youth work and everyday life as effective tools for promoting well-being and prevention. Finally, the project aimed to foster intercultural dialogue and exchange of good practices among partner countries. Participants explored how mental health is perceived and addressed in different cultural contexts, shared experiences from their countries, and learned innovative youth work approaches used across Europe and Türkiye. This strengthened mutual understanding, promoted inclusion, and encouraged future cooperation on mental health-related initiatives. Overall, the project successfully achieved its objectives by creating a supportive international community where young people improved their mental health awareness, developed personal and social competencies, and gained new creative tools for emotional expression and well-being.
