Objectives

As Online Peace Group, we have been carrying out both local and international activities in the field of digital education and the conscious use of artificial intelligence for many years. With this project, our aim was to improve young people's digital literacy skills, raise awareness about the digital transformation process, and encourage their active involvement in it. We believe that young people should not only be consumers but also producers and responsible individuals in the digital world. However, our observations and local research revealed that most young people had only superficial knowledge about artificial intelligence technologies and lacked sufficient awareness of the ethical dimension of these technologies. This finding became the starting point of our project. Our main goal in implementing this project was to support the personal and professional development of young people and help them become more conscious individuals regarding artificial intelligence technologies. Especially in recent years, as the digital world evolves rapidly and AI's impact on our lives grows stronger, we wanted young people to become active and responsible participants in this transformation—not just passive users. Through this project, we aimed to enable young people to gain knowledge about the different types and applications of AI, while also increasing their awareness of the ethical and responsible use of these technologies. Developing critical thinking skills around issues such as privacy, power dynamics, manipulation, and environmental impacts was essential for young people to become not just followers of technology, but contributors and leaders in this field. In addition, one of our priorities was to inform young people about emerging job opportunities arising from the digital transformation and to help prepare them for this shift. Through the workshops, group activities, and international meetings we organized, participants had the chance to develop their digital skills while also enhancing their social and civic competences through intercultural interaction. With this project, we aimed to raise awareness among young people about AI, better prepare them for the world of the future, and support their growth into responsible digital citizens. The overall objective of our project was to increase awareness among young people about the different types of artificial intelligence and its ethical use, thereby enhancing their competencies. In line with this, our specific objectives were: 1) To raise awareness about AI among youth, contributing to the development of technology and creativity together; 2) To support youth in being prepared for new job opportunities and transformations based on AI; 3) To help young people analyze the negative effects of unconscious AI usage and increase their awareness in this regard; 4) To support young people in internalizing values related to ethical issues of AI, such as privacy, power dynamics, human emotions, and environmental impacts, and developing attitudes and behaviors aligned with these values. To achieve these goals, we implemented a variety of digital and face-to-face activities aimed at improving participants’ knowledge of artificial intelligence, fostering responsible and ethical use, and enhancing their cultural awareness and digital skills through international teamwork. Furthermore, gaining knowledge about opportunities under Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps, as well as understanding non-formal learning methods, were among the key outcomes of the project. Throughout the implementation phase, participants not only gained technical knowledge but also developed the attitudes, skills, and sense of responsibility needed to make a difference in their communities as ethically aware individuals in the digital age. Notably, it was very valuable for us to see some participants who were initially distant or uninformed about AI become actively engaged in discussions on digital ethics by the end of the project. Additionally, through the social media campaigns and visibility efforts we carried out during the project, Erasmus+ and its values were promoted both in partner countries and within the participants' social networks. The content we created helped raise awareness about the ethical use of AI. These materials will continue to serve as valuable resources for similar future initiatives, contributing to the sustainability of the project’s outcomes.
