Objectives

The primary objective we sought to achieve through the implementation of the project was to enhance the career opportunities of young individuals educated in the field of the history of science and to contribute to their ability to plan their professional futures more consciously by drawing attention to the employment challenges within this field. The limited number of institutions providing education in the history of science in Türkiye, together with the insufficient employment opportunities available to graduates in both the public and private sectors, constituted the main point of departure for the project. Accordingly, the project aimed to demonstrate how young historians of science could utilize their knowledge and expertise across diverse sectors and to establish stronger connections between them and the professional world. Another significant objective of the project was to increase awareness of the field of the history of science by introducing young people to Türkiye’s scientific heritage and by making the cultural, academic, and social significance of this field more visible. Through activities organized in historically important centers for the history of science, such as Istanbul, Tokat, and Sivas, the project aimed to enable participants to engage directly with the tangible heritage of the history of science and to recognize the connections between this field and various career paths, including education, museology, cultural heritage management, and research. The project also sought to develop the skills required by young people during job-search processes. In this regard, participants were provided with knowledge and practical experience in areas such as career planning, curriculum vitae preparation, interview techniques, networking, and communication with the professional sector. In this way, graduates of the history of science were encouraged to recognize that their career prospects were not limited solely to academia, but that they could also find opportunities in a variety of other sectors. Among the project’s objectives was also the encouragement of young people’s participation in decision-making processes and the development of policy recommendations addressing employment issues in the field of the history of science. Through workshops, panel sessions, and summit meetings organized throughout the project, participants had the opportunity both to share their own experiences and to develop solution-oriented proposals regarding the employment of graduates in the history of science. This process enabled young people not merely to participate in educational activities, but also to contribute actively to the development of the project outputs. In conclusion, the project aimed to increase the career awareness of participants aged 18–30, including students studying in the field of the history of science, young graduates, and individuals from different academic disciplines who are interested in this area. Through the activities carried out within the scope of the project, it was intended that participants would establish stronger connections with the professional world and gain a broader perspective on the educational and employment dimensions of the history of science. Accordingly, the activities implemented within the project were designed to contribute both to the development of participants’ professional competencies and to the support of their personal development.
