Objectives

The project "Schuman, a Legacy of Equality" draws its inspiration from the post-World War II journey of Robert Schuman, a visionary who transformed a context of division into a project of cooperation rooted in the values of solidarity, unity, and inclusion. Building on this heritage, the project aims to address the current challenges faced by young people, such as discrimination, social inequalities, economic barriers, and a lack of civic engagement. These issues resonate with the European values upheld by Schuman, who demonstrated that inclusion and collaboration are powerful tools for building a better future. Participants, often confronted with social, economic, or geographical barriers, will benefit from a structured framework fostering the development of essential skills for their personal and collective growth. Through non-formal learning activities, they will strengthen key social skills such as intercultural communication, conflict management, and teamwork. These skills are crucial for interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds while fostering a sense of belonging and equality. By participating in collaborative workshops, such as creating a collective mural or organizing local projects post-exchange, young people will also develop organizational skills, including planning, project management, and decision-making. These experiences will teach them how to translate their ideas into concrete actions while cultivating critical thinking in the face of social challenges. The project also emphasizes the development of transversal skills, such as resilience, creativity, and autonomy. For instance, implementing intercultural projects requires participants to adapt to varied contexts while mobilizing their ability to solve problems and work in dynamic environments. These skills, documented and validated through Youthpass, are transferable to their academic, professional, and civic paths. On a values-based level, the project seeks to instill a deep understanding of inclusion and equality among young people, in alignment with European principles. Following Schuman’s example of transforming past wounds into opportunities for collective progress, participants will develop an active sense of citizenship, enabling them to play a constructive role in their communities. In summary, "Schuman, a Legacy of Equality" goes beyond raising awareness of social issues; it equips young people with the concrete means to become agents of change by cultivating skills and values that will accompany them throughout their lives. This project fully aligns with Erasmus+ quality standards by promoting social inclusion, employing non-formal learning methodologies to encourage active participation, and providing a secure and supportive environment that fosters personal growth. By bridging the historical legacy of Robert Schuman with contemporary challenges, the project also aims to strengthen a common European identity by highlighting Europe’s foundational values: unity in diversity, equality, and solidarity. Through collaborative activities, young people will explore their roles as active citizens in their local communities and their place within a broader European project. This approach will help them better understand the cultural, social, and historical interconnections that unite European peoples while celebrating their diversity. A key aspect of the project lies in the collaboration between the three partner organizations, which combine their expertise to provide an inclusive and diverse framework. This synergy ensures an enriched and shared approach, reflecting the European cooperation values championed by Robert Schuman. By offering a transformative experience with a lasting impact, the project contributes to promoting European citizenship by helping participants develop a sense of belonging to a European community. This commitment translates into their ability to cooperate across borders, uphold the values of inclusion, and act in favor of more just and inclusive societies.
