Objectives

Within the project “Without roots you cannot grow”, several educational, intercultural and participatory activities were organised to support the personal development and social engagement of young people. The activities were based on non-formal learning methods, where active participation, dialogue and peer learning were central. The core activity of the project was a youth exchange, during which participants took part in interactive workshops, group discussions and reflection sessions. The activities focused on themes such as identity, roots, belonging, social inclusion, stereotypes and intercultural dialogue. Participants were encouraged to share their personal experiences and perspectives in a safe and respectful environment. The programme included creative workshops, storytelling sessions, team-building activities and group assignments that helped young people express themselves and learn from each other. One of the key activities was a group assignment in which participants wrote letters addressed to Belgian and Moroccan youth. In these letters, they reflected on topics such as identity, belonging and the challenges faced by young people today. The letters were later compiled into a booklet, which became a tangible outcome of the project. In addition to the workshops and discussions, the programme also included informal learning activities, such as intercultural evenings, group reflections and shared cultural moments that helped strengthen the connection between participants. The project involved 20 young participants, aged between 15 and 30 years old, supported by 4 youth workers and facilitators. The participants came from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, with a strong focus on young people with fewer opportunities, including youth with migrant backgrounds and those from socially vulnerable situations. The presence of 4 facilitators was necessary because the project worked with a vulnerable target group. Each facilitator was responsible for supporting a small group of young participants, which ensured close guidance, mentoring and personal support throughout the activities. This approach helped create a safe environment where every participant could actively engage in the learning process.
