Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data usageMedia literacy and tackling disinformationDigital skills and competences

Objectives

The project aims to address the growing need for critical thinking and media literacy among young people, with a particular focus on developing skills to recognize disinformation and algorithmically manipulated content. In the digital era, where social media and online platforms serve as the primary source of information for young people, understanding the influence of artificial intelligence on media and the flow of information is crucial. The project will provide participants with the opportunity to analyze how AI creates, filters, and disseminates content, as well as how it can be used to manipulate public perceptions. Additionally, participants will gain knowledge about different types of artificial intelligence, their applications, and ways to use AI-based tools effectively and ethically. The main objectives of the project are to raise awareness about artificial intelligence and its impact on the media environment while developing practical skills for analyzing information and building resilience against disinformation. Participants will be encouraged to develop critical thinking skills, understand the mechanisms behind algorithms, and identify ways in which artificial intelligence can be used for manipulation. Through training sessions, role-playing games, practical exercises, and discussions, the project will equip them with concrete tools to recognize fake news, deepfake technologies, and other forms of media manipulation, as well as to understand the role of AI in creating visual and textual content, processing data, and personalizing information in social networks. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project seeks to provide effective educational methods that are adaptive, interactive, and engaging, encouraging young people to think independently, critically assess the content they consume, and develop more sustainable digital habits. Through non-formal education methods, participants will learn to apply a critical approach to the information they encounter on social media and understand how recognizing manipulation and disinformation can be used as a tool for more active and informed civic participation. The project also aims to promote intercultural exchange, providing young people from different countries with the opportunity to share perspectives on the role of AI in media and how it influences various social and cultural contexts. Participants will develop soft skills such as teamwork, communication, argumentation, and presenting information to an audience, which will contribute to their personal and professional development. Through this project, youth workers will gain new interactive methods for engaging young people on AI and media literacy, which will enhance the quality of non-formal education and ensure the sustainability of the results. The developed methodologies and materials will be shared with a broader audience, allowing them to be used in future initiatives, thereby guaranteeing the project's long-term impact. Beyond its educational dimension, the project will also have a social impact, promoting active participation of young people in society and preparing them to navigate the challenges of the digital era. By developing specific skills in identifying media manipulation, analyzing information, thinking critically, and working with artificial intelligence, the project will contribute to building a more informed, resilient, and engaged young generation that understands both the risks and opportunities that AI presents.
