Inclusion of marginalised young peoplePreventing racism and discriminationPromotion of alternative forms of participation

Objectives

Language barriers significantly contribute to social exclusion and discrimination, particularly for young people from marginalized groups, including refugees and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who often lack the financial means to travel or purchase language courses. Knowing only one language limits access to education, employment, and social interactions, leading to isolation and exclusion. Effective communication is crucial for combating discrimination and promoting social inclusion, as it enables individuals to fully participate in society, access essential services, and exercise their human rights. Language skills are vital for social cohesion, equal opportunities, and democratic participation. Knowing other European languages fosters cohesion within Europe by facilitating communication and understanding among different European countries. Understanding languages outside of Europe helps establish positive relationships with partner countries and supports the inclusion of individuals seeking better lives in Europe. This includes improving their access to essential services, enhancing social participation, increasing employment opportunities, and facilitating access to education. Moreover, for Europeans in their own countries, it involves cultivating an inclusive mind-set that actively integrates individuals from diverse backgrounds into society. This approach not only enriches cultural and linguistic diversity but also aims to foster inclusion, creating a more unified and fair society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their origins or economic circumstances. The project will invite 32 persons (24 participants, 6 groups leaders & 2 facilitators) from the following countries: Greece, Lithuania, Hungary, Estonia, Georgia and Cyprus. The objectives of our project are: -To identify and recognize different foreign languages -To learn basic phrases about personal introductions, social life, daily routine, food and drink, travel, culture, work and study, health, technology and weather -To overcome language barriers by learning and practicing tools and strategies to communicate key ideas non-verbally or with help devices (phone, cards) -To understand what social exclusion is, in what situations it can happen, and the groups of people that are more affected. -To empower participants to communicate and build relationships with people who have different health, education, cultural, social, economic, and geographical backgrounds. -To understand and discuss how multilingualism can promote social inclusion on migration, participation in political life, social life, access to services, and job opportunities. In conclusion, addressing language barriers is essential for fostering social inclusion and combating discrimination, particularly among young people from marginalized communities. Equipping participants with vital language skills and strategies aims to enhance communication, promote understanding, and empower individuals to engage fully in society. Through multilingualism, our project seeks to create a more inclusive environment that supports diverse backgrounds and facilitates equal opportunities for all, ultimately contributing to a cohesive and equitable society where everyone can thrive.
