The project addresses two main problems: lack of education on climate change and the vulnerability of children to its effects. Lack of education makes children more vulnerable both in the short term and in the long term, as they continue to face the causes and effects of climate change. Additionally, in Cyprus, the level of solidarity, information, and support manifested by youth regarding important environmental issues is relatively low. This project aims to educate youth on climate change, helping them understand and interact with their communities and local and central authorities. The objectives of the project include exchanging information and knowledge about ways to reduce the environmental crisis, raising awareness about the importance of sustainable living among young people, developing a campaign that will be implemented in partner communities, stimulating the sense of initiative among young people, increasing youth participation in addressing climate change, networking and connecting young Europeans against climate change, and promoting the Erasmus+ Programme. The project will empower youth, mainly from rural areas, to formulate and communicate their concerns about climate change with decision-makers and advocate for their right to a healthy, sustainable, and safe environment at international, national, and local levels. By using non-formal learning principles, the project will strengthen participants' advocacy and debating skills. During the project, participants will engage in various activities such as a mock United Nations climate conference where they will represent different countries and negotiate to develop recommendations for addressing climate change. These recommendations will be submitted to international policymakers and discussed at conferences around Europe. Climate change will serve as a platform to promote intercultural exchange and dialogue among youth from participating countries, leading to the development of a youth manifesto raising concerns and wishes regarding climate change. Creative activities will include creating products from natural materials that can be placed on the market, providing participants with basic knowledge about recycling and sustainable living. Presentations and workshops will help participants learn about each other's cultures and sustainable living practices, while role-playing and debates will enhance their understanding of climate change and advocacy skills. Watching movies and engaging in discussions will further help participants understand the global and local effects of climate change. The expected outcomes of the project include a youth manifesto raising concerns and wishes regarding climate change, a list of recommendations for volunteer green projects in the form of a checklist for environmental protection and sustainable living, a toolkit for Green habits to help young people and associations implement daily healthy-green eco-living practices, and a magazine and documentary of the project's activities. Dissemination efforts will include a video campaign to share the stories and results of the project, social media and website postings, engaging local and regional media, and community engagement activities where participants will share their knowledge and inspire action. The town campaign in Cyprus will involve direct engagement with the local community to raise awareness and promote sustainable practices. In conclusion, the "Active Youth 4 Better Environment" project aims to empower young people to advocate for a greener future and create a lasting impact on their communities. Through various activities and dissemination strategies, the project seeks to educate, inspire, and mobilize youth to address climate change and promote sustainable living practices.
