From a youth work perspective, the primary aim of "Voices of Unity: Celebrating Diversity Through Digital Storytelling" is to promote critical consciousness and active participation among young people from diverse backgrounds. The project will bring together 25 participants (aged 18-30), 4 group leaders, and 1 assistant in Limassol for 9 days, creating an immersive environment where intercultural learning, creativity, and inclusivity intersect. Recent research indicates that digital storytelling enhances creativity, empathy, and communication skills in youth contexts (Ohler, 2013; Cherrington & Wium, 2020). By centring intercultural learning and inclusivity, the project aligns with established objectives for equipping participants with competencies essential for meaningful engagement in pluralistic societies (European Commission, 2020; Kaplan, 2021). The youth-led approach ensures that participants maintain agency throughout the storytelling process, a factor shown to increase motivation and social connectedness (Delahunty, 2018). Such active involvement resonates with current best practices in experiential learning, merging collaboration, reflection, and digital media to develop transferable skills beyond the immediate exchange (Cherrington & Wium, 2020). With mentorship and peer support at its core, the project will empower participants to leverage technology and narrative techniques to challenge stereotypes, foster inclusion, and promote positive social change in their communities (European Commission, 2020). Main Project Aims: Enhance Digital Storytelling Skills Equip participants with practical techniques in filming, editing, and scriptwriting to effectively communicate stories of diversity and inclusion. Foster Intercultural Understanding Create meaningful dialogue and collaboration among young people from varied cultural and ability backgrounds, breaking down stereotypes and fostering mutual respect. Promote Social Inclusion Encourage respect and acceptance of diverse abilities and identities, ensuring that every participant feels valued and heard. Build Empathy and Personal Growth Use storytelling to deepen emotional awareness, develop resilience, and strengthen interpersonal connections among participants. Empower Youth Leadership and Civic Engagement Cultivate confidence and agency in young people, motivating them to become active contributors to inclusive communities and future initiatives. Concrete Measurable Outcomes: 1. 20 Digital Stories Created: Each participant will produce at least one digital story, focusing on themes of diversity, inclusion, and cultural identity. 2. 5 Community Screenings Held: Public events will be organized in each participating country to showcase the digital stories, reaching an audience of at least 500 people in total. 3. 80% Participant Improvement in Digital Skills: Pre- and post-project surveys will assess an 80% increase in participants’ confidence and competence in digital storytelling tools. 4. Formation of an Online Storytelling Platform: A dedicated website or social media page will be created to share participant stories, aiming to reach 1,000 views within three months post-project. 5. Establishment of 3 Ongoing Collaborations: At least three partnerships or follow-up projects will be initiated between participating organizations to continue promoting diversity and inclusion.
