Objectives

The power of photography was a training course implemented in Paphos, Cyprus, last year. Coordinated by IEEN Association in partnership with Lumira (Romania), Level Up (Poland), Aktive Kosmos (Spain), Global Circle (Italy) and En Root (France), the project aimed to provide youth workers with modern non-formal photography methods that could help them engage better with young people. All objectives established during the planning phase were successfully achieved through the coordinated implementation of the preparation, training and follow-up phases of the project. The first objective: increasing participants' knowledge of photography-based non-formal education methods, was achieved through a progressive learning process. Throughout the training, the participants explored and practised a wide range of photography-based educational methods, including PhotoVoice, PhotoStory, visual storytelling, six-word stories, photographic challenges and reflection techniques. The second objective focused on increasing participants' confidence in using artistic and creative approaches in their daily work. This was achieved through creating numerous situations in which the youth workers had the opportunity to practise these newly-learned approaches (either in intercultural teams during the training, with the local community from Paphos, or back home with their youth groups). The third objective aimed to improve participants' practical photography competences. During the training course they developed knowledge of camera functions, composition techniques, visual communication principles and storytelling through images.
