The project aimed to strengthen the capacity of youth workers to actively engage young people in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainability. It was developed in response to the increasing need to support youth workers with relevant knowledge, practical methods and concrete tools that would enable them to integrate environmental sustainability more effectively into their daily work with young people. Through the project, we wanted to reinforce the role of youth work in raising awareness about environmental issues and in encouraging young people to become active contributors to more sustainable communities. More specifically, the project sought to increase participants’ understanding of major environmental challenges, such as climate change, pollution, deforestation and biodiversity loss, and to connect these issues with the wider concept of sustainable development and the objectives of the UN Agenda 2030. We wanted participants to better understand the importance of youth engagement in environmental protection and to recognize young people as important actors in creating positive change for the future. At the same time, the project aimed to strengthen youth workers’ confidence and competences to address these topics through non-formal education and youth work practice. Objectives of the Training Course were: • Explore the role of young people and youth work in addressing global environmental challenges. • Understand the principles of sustainable development, global citizenship and education for sustainability. • Promote action towards sustainability at both personal and organizational levels, with a focus on environmental protection. • Practice tools and methods that help young people develop competencies and values for building environmentally sustainable communities. • Introduce the Erasmus+ programme as a platform for promoting environmental sustainability among young people. • Provide a space for intercultural dialogue, networking and partnership-building to strengthen collaboration on sustainability efforts. Overall, the project was designed not only to improve knowledge and understanding of environmental sustainability, but also to encourage practical reflection and future action. It aimed to support youth workers in becoming better prepared to inspire and guide young people towards more sustainable behaviours and greater involvement in environmental protection, while also strengthening international cooperation and the exchange of good practices in this field.
