Objectives

“NICE AI: Navigating Intercultural Communication and Exploration with AI tools” was a training course that symbolized the synthesis of human cultural understanding with the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. This project sought to cultivate intercultural competencies by merging human-driven role-playing, simulation and theatrical exercises with AI-driven simulations. Therefore, the core aim of the TC was to create a learning space where we could efficiently explore the capacity of integration of AI tools in role-play, simulation and theatrical activities for the purposes of intercultural learning. Particularly, we explored how cultural interactions could be enhanced through AI, simulating real-world cultural complexities in a controlled, replicable environment. With “NICE AI” we aimed to: -investigate simulation, storytelling, role-play and theatrical methods and tools along with AI tools and their applicability in intercultural learning, youth work and non-formal education; -support intercultural learning, development of intercultural communication, tolerance and acceptance through exploration of cultural rituals/ceremonies and folklore fairy-tales as key components of culture with the help of AI tools, simulation, storytelling, role-play and theatrical methods and tools. We gathered partner organizations that were actively involved and interested in the TC. So, we tackled the main needs: -to raise the quality and innovation of youth work of partners through supplying them with a new vision on AI usage in youth work, along with simulation, storytelling, role-play and theatrical methods and tools, efficient in intercultural learning, youth work and NFE; -to use AI in youth work, stimulating local communities and intercultural learning with the help of new innovative, efficient, interactive and immersive methods. By the end of the project, we discovered the specifics of every tool and method and created a digital booklet “AI for Intercultural Learning”. We also came up with new local projects as the main visible and practical outcomes of the TC, aimed at local communities’ development in intercultural learning, fostering and building efficient intercultural dialogue with the help of AI, and finally, raising mutual understanding, tolerance and acceptance. Besides, we created several more tools (“A toolkit for Youth Workers”, “The Journey of Transformation”, “Storytelling & Roleplay Practice”, “Weaving worlds together: creating international fairy tales”), which proved we exceeded our initial tasks and aims during the TC. All the original objectives were met and were reached through the combination of non-formal education methods, AI-based exploration, role-play, simulation, storytelling and theatrical tools, as well as through the active involvement of all partner organizations and participants. The achievements of the project were in line with the initial expectations, and the practical outcomes, including the digital booklet and local project ideas, strengthened the expected results of the training course. The main objectives of the TC were: -to explore AI tools and their applicability in intercultural learning, youth work and NFE; to supply participants and participating organizations with AI tools applicable for intercultural learning; -to explore the key components of culture; to supply participants and participating organizations with innovative approaches, methods and tools, such as simulations, storytelling, role-plays, Improvisation Theatre, Playback Theatre and Theatre of the Oppressed, to explore cultural rituals/ceremonies and folklore fairy-tales; -to foster a deeper understanding of human and European values, enriching participants with knowledge and respect for diverse cultural perspectives; -to enhance cultural interaction, expression and sensitivity; -to develop communication skills and key competences; -to build long-lasting partnerships and to enhance resource exchange; -to develop entrepreneurship competence, sense of initiative, project creating, writing and management skills; -to contribute to the community development in participating countries on the local level. The TC left a lasting and positive impact on various levels, fostering learning, practical skills and sustainable change. The objectives were reached through the use of innovative techniques, storytelling approaches, role-playing exercises and theatrical methods, which were beneficial for youth work aimed at exploration and improvement of intercultural learning and non-formal education. Moreover, beyond individual participants, the TC had an impact on the local communities. It boosted the development of new projects aimed at AI tools and NFE methods for intercultural learning within the local community. These projects were designed to promote efficient intercultural communication and dialogue, bridging gaps between different cultures and fostering a sense of shared understanding and appreciation.
