Objectives

The main project goal is to build on the successful implementation in the previous project period and to create a long-term concept for the development of underprivileged youth. To inspire young people with limited opportunities and show them that their socio-economic background or other disadvantages, whether cultural, geographical or gender, do not have to be an insurmountable barrier. The project seeks to create a level playing field that enables young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to utilize similar opportunities as their peers from usual socio-economic backgrounds. Long-term surveys, such as the PISA evaluation (2018, 2023), show that the Czech Republic is still lagging behind in ensuring equal access to education. This means that children from underprivileged backgrounds often enroll on a predetermined life path, influenced by socio-economic factors, and rarely manage to escape these conditions. These inequalities are obvious not only in formal education, but especially in non-formal education, which is left as a solely family domain. Our organisation has long been committed to equality in education and has worked tirelessly to ensure a fair playing field for all students. The limitations we faced in the area of non-formal education for youth have been successfully overcome with the support of DiscoverEU and the successful implementation of the project has had measurable impacts in terms of student activation and in increasing the attractiveness of the Organization as an institution where educational inequalities are lower than in comparable ones. Another of the project's main objectives is to further reduce inequalities in access to non-formal education for individuals from underprivileged backgrounds and to continue to maintain an environment in which educational opportunities can become more accessible. The organisation seeks to provide the conditions that will enable these individuals to acquire valuable skills and knowledge, which will not only upscale their non-formal learning abilities but also have a positive impact on their success in formal education. As with our previous project, this one will aim to ensure that the newly acquired skills become useful tools in their daily lives. A further project goal is to also keep the participants' interest in education alive in its various forms, whether formal or informal. The project implementers will also be motivated to leave their comfort zone, thus gaining not only new experiences but most of all the ability to overcome cultural barriers and change entrenched stereotypes. The whole project will be implemented in line with the objectives and priorities of the Erasmus+ programme, by following its quality standards to ensure the best possible results and sustainability of the changes achieved. Should we dare to say that our initial project had saw its main objective in stimulating a change in informal education, the ultimate goal of the further one is to sustain a long-term approach and to ensure the sustainability in implementing set practices. We understand that our journey in overcoming obstacles is far from over and that if we had access to additional funding sources, we would be able to have an even greater impact not only on our students but also on our immediate surrounding. In addition, from the perspective of the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research (DZS), we have proven to be a reliable partner that can successfully implement projects and even successfully handle unexpected situations in which, for example, in the event of delays due to administrative tasks, having received the letter of approval we are able to pre-finance the project from our own resources.
