Objectives

The project “Creative Europe – Out of Crisis Mode” took place from December 5–12, 2025 at Schloss Trebnitz with 60 young people aged 15–16 from Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, and Germany. The project was based on our long-standing partnership and built on both our previous experience and the needs of the participating youth. Five experienced facilitators, familiar with the topic and methodology, prepared the project together with the responsible teachers and organizational leaders and accompanied as well as evaluated the learning process throughout the program. The project combined the theme “Sustainable and Democratic Europe” with the learning method “European Election Workshop”, enriched by a variety of creative learning activities. Europe and its future play an important role in the everyday lives of young people, even if they are not always fully aware of it. Therefore, we aimed to encourage participants to reflect on the European idea: What do European values mean to each individual? What does European identity signify? How can participation opportunities for young people be strengthened? During an excursion to Berlin, participants gathered impressions and inspiration on European topics and engaged in expert discussions. Through these experiences, they developed a deeper understanding of Europe and strengthened their awareness of European challenges, based on a critical and multi-perspective examination of both the aspirations and realities of the EU. European Election Workshop Through this project, we also contributed to the broader debate about Europe’s future by applying our European Election methodology. This method enables young people to engage intensively with European politics by founding their own European parties, developing election programs, and conducting election campaigns. Participants learned a structured yet open learning tool that allows them to explore and reflect upon possible European futures. While the method focuses on present-day Europe, it also encourages participants to reflect on their current perceptions and attitudes and, if necessary, adjust them in light of new insights. Creativity Five different creative methods were used within the scenario-based approach to present the developed content: theatre, video, music, comics, and dance. These formats allowed participants to contribute and further develop their individual strengths and interests. The focus was on collaborative group processes, in which each participant acted as an equal creative contributor. Public Presentation and Discussion The videos created during the project were presented to political decision-makers and European experts from the Ministry for European Affairs of Brandenburg and the Brandenburg State Parliament. This provided an opportunity to engage in dialogue on civic engagement, participation, democracy, and European integration. Key competences such as intercultural learning, social engagement, and civic participation were strengthened through an open yet structured learning process. Throughout the entire project, young people acted as the main protagonists. They gained experiences of self-efficacy, which strengthened their self-confidence. The project was certified with a Youthpass, helping participants reflect upon and document their non-formal learning process. Sustainability and Participation The project was documented and disseminated to target groups in the participating countries. The partner organizations intend to further use and adapt the methods in their youth work. In the long term, the project contributed to strengthening the participants’ European political awareness. They learned to adopt a European perspective and were encouraged and empowered to engage actively in society. The young people also contributed to the EU’s future-oriented debate. For the participating schools and municipalities, the project represented another step toward Europeanization and internationalization, methodological innovation, and the strengthening of their strategic orientation. Contemporary developments were addressed, and new thematic as well as methodological capacities were built. Overall Objectives Through activating methods, the project strengthened youth participation and active European citizenship. It contributed to the prevention of exclusion, racism, and xenophobia, while promoting appreciation of diversity and pluralism within European societies.
