The project “Leveraging AI and Digital Tools for Employment” aimed to empower young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly Roma youth, young people from rural areas, and migrants, by strengthening their digital competences and employability through the practical use of artificial intelligence and online tools. The project responded to persistent barriers such as limited access to education and career guidance, geographical isolation, digital exclusion, and social marginalisation, which significantly hinder young people’s access to quality employment opportunities across the participating countries: Romania, Germany, North Macedonia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Turkey. At the time of implementation, youth unemployment remained a major challenge across Europe, with particularly high rates in disadvantaged and marginalised communities. Research and statistical data highlighted significant disparities in access to digital education and key competences, especially among Roma communities and young people living in rural areas. Needs assessments, consultations, and discussions conducted with young people and volunteers within the partner organisations confirmed very low levels of digital literacy and an almost complete lack of knowledge regarding artificial intelligence. Even participants with basic digital skills reported not knowing how to use AI for learning, accessing services, preparing job applications, or improving their employability. Almost none of the participants had previously used AI tools for job searching, CV preparation, interview preparation, or career planning. Similar gaps were identified across all partner countries, where such approaches were largely absent. In response to these needs, the project aimed to increase young people’s access to the labour market and improve their knowledge and practical use of artificial intelligence, in line with the Erasmus+ priorities of inclusion, digital transformation, and employability. The project successfully pursued several key objectives. It equipped 42 participants with practical skills in AI-driven job searching, online résumé and portfolio building, and digital self-promotion through an eight-day structured youth exchange. It facilitated intercultural learning and mutual support among 42 young people from six countries, fostering entrepreneurial thinking, intercultural understanding, and a broader awareness of European employment ecosystems. In parallel, the project increased the capacity of the six partner organisations to integrate AI and digital tools into their youth work practices to better support young people’s employability. Through non-formal education methods, hands-on workshops, simulations, and group work, the project addressed the lack of knowledge related to the use of AI and online tools for job searching, job applications, and online self-promotion. It also tackled low levels of understanding of entrepreneurship by introducing participants to AI-supported business planning, online marketing, and digital business development. To further support participants, the partnership worked together with an AI expert to create a supportive learning environment where young people could receive mentoring, guidance, and practical support related to employment challenges and entrepreneurship development using AI. The project aimed not only to improve participants’ technical and digital competences, but also to strengthen their self-confidence, motivation, and ability to actively participate in social and economic life. By combining digital innovation, intercultural learning, and inclusive youth work approaches, the project contributed to reducing inequalities, promoting social inclusion, and enhancing the long-term employability prospects of disadvantaged young people.
