Objectives

In today’s fast-paced digital age, the need to be an informed and responsible digital citizen has never been more crucial. Digital platforms increasingly shape democratic engagement, yet many young people, educators, and broader communities are unaware of the responsibilities and opportunities that digital citizenship offers. This lack of awareness contributes to several pressing challenges, including the spread of misinformation, digital illiteracy, and limited civic participation in online spaces. These issues undermine the potential for creating a well-informed, critically engaged, and participative society. Our project directly addresses these gaps by equipping young people and educators with the skills needed to navigate the digital world responsibly. As part of the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025, our project contributes to a collective European effort to create a roadmap for digital citizenship education across member states, promoting shared goals, best practices, and innovative strategies. The Issues We Aim to Address Digital Literacy Gap: A significant portion of young people lack the critical skills to analyze online information effectively. This leaves them vulnerable to misinformation and digital manipulation. Lack of Digital Citizenship Education: Schools and youth organizations often lack the necessary resources and training to teach responsible and informed participation in the digital world. Many educators do not feel prepared to address these challenges. Underutilized Digital Democratic Participation: While digital platforms offer powerful tools for democratic engagement, young people frequently fail to recognize or seize these opportunities due to a lack of awareness and digital skills. Broad Community Awareness: Beyond students, there is a need to educate educators, civil society, and the private sector on the value of fostering digital citizenship across all generations. Project Objectives Promote the Take-up of Digital Citizenship Education: Our project will introduce digital citizenship education into youth learning environments through interactive workshops and hands-on activities. This aligns with the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025 vision, fostering a critical understanding of the digital landscape among learners. Raise Awareness Across Educational and Civil Sectors: The project will actively engage education practitioners, civil society, and private sectors in understanding the importance of digital citizenship. By producing resources such as podcasts, manuals, and blog content, we will enhance their capacity to support digital citizenship education. Increase Public Engagement with Digital Citizenship: Through digital campaigns and public outreach, we aim to bring the topic of digital citizenship to the forefront of public discourse. This effort supports the 2025 initiative by involving learners and citizens in understanding both the opportunities and risks of digital technologies. Encourage Sustainable Digital Participation: By embedding digital citizenship into educational practices and creating openaccess resources, the project will ensure a long-lasting impact. Our resources will contribute to the 2025 roadmap for sustained digital education and democratic participation, supporting young people to engage actively and responsibly in their digital communities.
