Climate change and ecological destruction have become a global crisis that seriously threatens not only the present but also the living conditions of future generations. Increasing environmental degradation around the world has reached alarming lev els, especially among young people in Europe, prompting them to take both individual and collective action. According to the latest statistics from the European Union, in 2021, 80% of young people want to actively participate in the fight against clima te change, but 40% of these young people say they do not have enough knowledge about environmental protection policies and sustainable living (Eurostat, 2021). These data point to a huge gap in the awareness-raising process of young people a nd strongly emphasize the need to close this gap. For example, even in Italy, one of the world's leading countries in environmental protection policies, 35% of young people re ported a lack of knowledge on issues related to ecological sustainability and climate change. This reveals that even in countr ies that are leaders in environmental awareness, the youth population is not sufficiently equipped and that there is an urgent need for more education and awareness-raising efforts in this area. Similarly, a study conducted in Hungary revealed that on ly 30% of young people have knowledge about sustainable agriculture and eco-friendly living (Hungarian Central Statistical Office, 2021). These low rates clearly demonstrate that young people lack knowledge on environmental issues and need mo re information. The situation is even more worrying in countries such as North Macedonia, Turkey and Romania. In these co untries, young people's awareness of ecological activism and the EU's climate change policies is very low, with only 25% of young people in Turkey and 27% in Romania saying they are able to take an active role in environmental issues (World Bank, 2022). These young people have limited access to ecological awareness and this prevents them from effectively contributi ng to environmental issues. Our project will fill this important gap, address their lack of knowledge and support them to beco me informed advocates for environmental issues. In this context, ensuring the active participation of young people in the fight against climate change and ecological destruction and developing their knowledge and skills in this field has become a need that cannot be postponed. The main driving force of our project was the lack of ecological literacy, sustainable living and EU climate policies among young people in Italy, Hungary, North Macedonia, Turkey and Romania. This lack of knowledge among young people is not only an individual problem, but also hinders the spread of collective movements based on environmental awareness. Our project encouraged you ng people to acquire environmentally friendly and sustainable living habits, while enabling them to take a leading role in prot ecting the global ecosystem. The project aimed to spread the concept of “ecological literacy” among the participants, raise a wareness of environmental protection and climate activism among young people. To achieve this goal, various training programs, workshops, group workshops and awareness campaigns were organized. In addition, it was a great opportunity to increase the level of knowledge of young people about the European Union's climate change policies, to provide them with a platform where they can take an active role in this field, and to create change at local and international level. Our project enabled young people to take part in the fight against climate change as more conscious, responsible and active individuals. Increased environmental awareness of young people contributed greatly to their efforts to create a more su stainable world for future generations. General aim was to foster a comprehensive understanding and active involvement in ecological conservation and climate chan ge mitigation among European youth. Our specific objectives were; To raise awareness on the terms “ecological literacy” and “activism” To motivate participants on sustainable and environmentally friendly living To increase the knowledge level of participants about the EU's climate change policies and sustainability strategies.
