Our goal was to invite young Europeans from four different countries and disadvantaged backgrounds to engage in an exchange about the extent to which they themselves shape the circumstances in which they live. Does the world I live in shape me – or do I shape the world? What is right, what is wrong? Does the end justify the means? We explored these questions artistically: in a joint theatre production based on Sophocles' Antigone, the participants were challenged to form their own opinions. The focus was on the transformation of artistic principles onto individuals and society. Democratic awareness, participation, diversity and, above all, the ability to take responsibility for one's own life and the community were not only tested in artistic activity, but also transferred to everyday life. During the encounter, the participants were empowered – each at their own individual level – to participate in processes that shape society in their home countries.
