Objectives

In the bilateral youth exchange project "YOU & ME & US", young participants were diving into their own habits, traditions and every day lives to get the opportunity to connect with other young people through arts and culture. Their every day life experiences, their ways of living together in our current society were contextualised in their own way with artistic and aesthetic practices. The artistic exploration in "YOU & ME & US" enabled creative access to the participants' lifeworld-orientated ideas and thus connects art with current issues in our society: How do we imagine living together in Europe? What we expect for our future? Where do we come from? Which traditions had shaped us? Which of these habits are outdated, which of them have still actuality? The concept of (individual and collective) identity is complex and is influenced by a lot of factors such as traditions, individual interests, globalisation, culture, food, experiences and many others. With non-formal education methods these identities were explored and discussed in a creative way. The project idea and main focus came from the experiences we could made during our two last projects, in 2023 and 2024. Instead of an overall "new" topic, we got the impression that especially the every day lives of the youngsters, how these lives are different from each other but also where we could find similarities, were most interesting for the youngsters. Everyone can contribute something to the topic, as it is coming directly from their own experiences and perspectives in every day life. As our previous projects too, “YOU & ME & US” aims to raise a young European generation to become more aware of their identity, including differences, particularities, but overall especially also similarities that they can find by connecting in international projects like this. To create space and time to become more conscious about the circumstances, traditions and sometimes historical facts of a society gives youngsters the possibility to get to know not only better their peers outside of their every day life (and here especially in a transcultural way), but help them also to explore their own identity in a critical and reflective perspective. The project organisers were engaging youth from Germany and Georgia in mutual and explorative activities using creative and aesthetic methods which included creative art and cultural workshops such as photography, textile art and cooking as well as excursions around the project venue and in the surroundings. The idea was to get an easy acces to these topics and to open a space where ideas are created and discussed in a group of youngsters travelling from Georgia and Germany. During the mobility in Germany, participants were gaining ideas and experiences not only how to talk about their daily lives and to reflect their own identity and individual cultural influences and socialisations, focusing on the history, traditions and events of their countries, but they also realised that artistic practices are suitable for creating an emotional, lifeworld-orientated approach to an individual and social dialogue and one's own role. Being aware of stereotypes and images we have from eachother, we wanted to give participants as well the opportunity to reflect them and to develop a critical thinking in a respectfull dialogue with their peers. Project has among other things following objectives: 1. Encourage youth to become empowered individual with a critical and reflective thinking with a lifeworld-oriented approach and by working in creatives and aesthetic ways 2. To promote better understanding of different cultures, habits, daily lives through discussions, presentations and common work through the specific topic of identity 3. To explore the cultural influences on everyday actions, especially on questions about living together in society and how societies are approaching to current social challenges 4. To stimulate the development of transcultural dialogue among different cultures and fields of art through cultural and nonformal educational activities. By the term “transcultural” we include also cultural differences and similarities in the same region, coming from different perspectives, e.g. from rural and urban living.
